Crocs

I like crocs and the croc knockoffs.  I began to wear them after years in the greenhouse with “swim shoes” that would have to be kept outside because they smelled so bad…no amount of foot powder would help them out. I had three pair of swim shoes that I rotated throughout the day.  Then my daughter Jen gave me a pair of red croc like shoes.  Crocs served a good purpose for me, they were cool, comfortable and I could get them wet a hundred times a day and they never smelled bad. I was sold..out went the rotting swim shoes.

Old Red crocs My most favorite old red croc knock offs, they are MANY years old. I need to spiff them up a bit for summer..they are easily cleaned up and rinsed off.

I have one foot that is not normal..it is longer than the other and it has no ankle joint to speak of..it moves bone on bone and has been that way well over thirty years ( long story ..shit happens)  I need comfortable shoes..I cannot tolerate a shoe that pinches my longer toes or touches my big toe.  Crocs give me the freedom to continue spoiling my foot and keep me from getting real cranky. I must have a flat shoe..forget anything with a heel. I am flat footed..I am not sure that I have arches..I do not need to support anything important..I just need comfort..and crocs work for me.  I do have a pair of hiking boots that I have had for years…I wear them if I am out walking on uneven ground.

Pink Crocs

Do I wear socks with my crocs..yes some days I do.  My best friend Susan brought me these the other day..no need for socks with these pretty pink ones! Black Knock offs Basic black to go with almost everything. These were a Christmas Gift from Jen.

newest brown crocs

And these are my new brown crocs..from Cabelas. I think they are so cute..brown is the new black at least that is what my daughters say.

I know, I know..plastic shoes..I am supporting foreign countries.  I am single handedly filling up the landfills..but I have not thrown any of these “plastic” shoes away yet..and if I ever find any just like my favorite red ones at a garage sale you can bet that they will be going home with me.

Until I find a Cobbler to make me a custom pair of shoes I will be wearing crocs and croc knock offs…if my feet could smile they would:)

  1. Durin' the summertime months I love my Croc flippies. They have support and little nubs that massage my feet as I work in my gardens. They have developed so many different styles these days it's plumb mindbogglin'!!!!

You feet look very comfy and satisfied!!! :o)

God bless and have a fantastic day!

  2. Oh those last ones are cute!
Crocs are my slippers. I have two pairs, both found at the thrift store, one pair is the real thing, the other pair is a knock off. I like the real ones that have the strap, I wear it across the heel.
I had a croc/slipper discussion with a friend the other night, and she was wearing a pair just like your pink ones:)
I don't often wear them for gardening, as we have so much dew. I get dirt in them and then the wet grass adds water and my feet end up sliding around on the thin layer of mud inside them. Even if the dew has burnt off, and I'm watering something, I always seem to end up with the mud layer.
    It's all about comfort:)

  4. I thought Crocs were ugly - still do - but oh, they ARE comfy - and cool and can get wet. So now, the kids and I all have a pair of knock-offs.

    Your crocs look cute!

  5. Love your new brown ones. Think I should get a pair. I just have some (think you do too) green plastic sandals that I got at L & M, but with the open toes, they get muddy to quick. It is too hot here for me, 84 yestday and now at 1:45 pm 86 degrees. ! ! News say it is about 10 degrees above normal. Wish they were on a normal year! Doodlebug is napping so few minutes to self. see ya later jo

  6. I bought my first Crocs this week. I opted for the MaryJane looking black ones. I don't know if they come in other colors. My store only had black. I was looking for comforatble shoes to wear on our D.C. trip the middle of May. I took your Croc wearing advise. Thnaks.

  7. Thanks for this really in-depth review, Far Side. I prefer tennies to everything, so I may just see if I can figure out what size crocs or croc knock-offs fit me. :)

  8. I have never even tried on these shoes. My foot is super narrow and I usually walk right out of something that I can't tie or strap on!!!

  10. Well as long as you recycle them when you finally wear them out who cares? I don't have a pair yet but I do like the feel of crocs, I easily overheat so they sound like a good fit. :)

  12. Crocs always seem way to wide for my feet so I've never bough a pair. I know you see them everywhere......even at weddings.

  13. I'll check them out. I insist on foot comfort and usually wear only Brooks walking shoes or Danskos. Have to admit the pink ones are cute.

  15. I love your new brown pair. They look like regular business shoes. Last year, I got a pair of the sandals that have a slight heel. They were more comfortable than I anticipated.
And I agree about the swim shoes. They would smell terrible - - even after being worn in chlorinated water!

  16. I don't have any CROCS but I do have my favorite pair - ohhh if only my feet didn't get cold when I wear them..... we need some heat up here!

  17. I am probably the only person in the world who finds Crocs uncomfortable. They really hurt my toes.

  18. I'm a Croc (Croc Knock-Off) advocate! I have my barn crocs (they are a rigid plastic with no holes...found at WM for $1), my garden crocs, my dress crocs and others.. of course, in different colors!
Love your new crocs and the black ones looks so shiny and new!

  19. I heard that Crocs are back for your back. But I have three pairs ... one for the barn, one for just mud and one for outside when it's not muddy. I thought they were rubber, not plastic. Oh, well. When they wear out, I'll worry about it but with three to wear, it will take years to wear out, hopefully. However, I would like to find a pair of black or dark brown that I can wear at period events when it's wet and hide the fact they are not period shoes.

  21. So instead of someone pullin' your leg they pulled your toe, so much it lengthened them? I think I've read about a case like that in Burgess tales. - I have foot issues too, 'cept mine go wonky unless they are swaddled tight (they are big babies) in a very flexible boot. But I must say I have a couple of near stilletos in my closet, I'm not a slave to fashion, just an occasional sucker! We have crock knocks at our doorways for the occasional quick run, but only so far, I've lost a few in the ankle mud before and ended up going without any foot wear because a quick peek out the door turned into, golly I really out to catch that .... while I can and the next thing I know I've gone far from crock zone.

  22. I like crocs too, but I can't wear them anymore. Since my left leg drags when I walk, I have to wear something with a sole that sort of glides across the floor. The plastic croc sticks and causes me to lose my balance.
