Last of the flowers

There are a few Asters blooming here and there and a couple of Coneflowers.

It rained most of the day yesterday.   The wind blew and leaves rained down along with the rain.  We watched Deer in the yard and a bunch of Common Flickers that must have used our lawn for a rest stop on their migration South.  It looked like they were snacking on ants!!

I did some housework and began painting the Christmas ornaments.

Good bye September.

Two or three vehicles and a flu shot

We were in a pinch.  My Mom ( Dental appointment) and Far Guy ( Infusion) both had appointments at about the same time.  There was no way I could accomplish both.  I should be two people sometimes.   We worked it out.  Far Guy took Tilly to town so he could get his infusion and I took our car.

I joined Far Guy at the clinic for a bit...long enough to get a flu shot.  Cross something off the vaccination list...one down two to go.  (RSV and the Covid booster)

If we lived on the outskirts of town Far Guy could have taken Ranger Blue but 14 miles is a bit much.

We use Ranger Blue to travel country roads to visit neighbors, trail rides, garbage to the County Transfer Station and to recycle.

So far I am doing okay with this years flu shot...a bit warm and sore, but nothing to complain about ...yet.

My Mom is getting very forgetful.  Her short term memory is not good.  She has to take the City Bus to appointments and someone must ride with her.  She uses a wheel chair to go to appointments.

Fall colors

 The Oaks.

Oaks kinda turn brownish and then fall to the ground.  They were a little golden for a day or two.

Fall colors for the next afghan project.  Far Guy is helpful and winds the yarn into balls for me.  I would rather work from a ball of yarn than run into a tangled mess inside a skein.

I enjoyed lunch with long time friend Susie yesterday!  We had a good time!

A Retriever

We all love Sadie.  Could be that she misses us.

When Jen got home from retreat, the afghan was in one of her bags.  Sadie immediately claimed it as hers.  It might smell a bit like me :)

Not much

Not much happening here.  I did some laundry, rested and had a long nap.

Far Guy had an eye appointment, his vitreous detachment is still in the process of detaching....she said it should resolve within a year.  Most people it takes a few weeks or a couple of months but some people up to a year.   He first saw the Eye Doctor back in May for this problem.

Back at home

The leaves are changing colors and falling.

I have mulched the leaves three times already...it will be close to ten times by the time they are all down out of the trees.   Far Guy put brand new mulching blades on my mower for me.

I got home from the craft retreat unpacked most everything and settled on the couch for a three hour nap.  Far Guy and I enjoyed seeing the colorful trees along the way home, he picked me up at retreat and brought me home.

We got three inches of rain here at home...a very welcome three inches!  Just two miles from us they got over 4 inches of rain.

I am having another RA flare or Chronic Lymes flare...something causing me more pain and exhaustion. Such is life.

Retreat Day 2

I will be busy with Christmas cards for days and days.  I picked a complicated pattern. Oh well.

I had a four hour nap during the day.  Son in law Andy brought us pulled pork for cowboy nachos, they were excellent. It was a good day.

Today I will pack up and head home.  We got a very welcome rain yesterday.

Retreat

It is fun catching up with the gals, hearing about their jobs and children and seeing what they are working on.

Sarah and I went out to breakfast and then to Hobby Lobby.  I had an afternoon nap.  I am making slow progress on the Christmas cards.

A finish

I had a Summer project and now that Summer is nearly over and Fall is almost beginning...officially Fall arrives tomorrow.

My project has been completed.

It is a mosaic pattern called Hush.  I love the pattern as it  is easily done while watching TV.  There is no rhyme or reason to my color sequence...I just picked seven colors of blues and yellows and used them every which way.

I am off to a craft retreat for a couple of days.  I am just an hour away from home.  Far Guy has some projects planned while I am gone.

We have 104 Christmas ornaments ready to paint some time in October. I was very happy to get the final ornaments through Quality Control and touch up...Far Guy did all the woodcarving this year.

Out to lupper

Yesterday Far Guy took me out to lupper ( lunch and supper all in one).  We had a nice afternoon.

By afternoon the wildfire smoke rolled in.

Kathy's Maple tree is just beautiful!  Although technically it may be Ruby's tree...but Kathy lives there now and Ruby died a number of years ago.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes I appreciate them!

Another one

Birthdays that is...me this time.  Those years tend to sneak up on a person.

A birthday cake a long time ago.  That is my Mom trying to hold my cake...this photo was taken in 1953....my baby brother is also in this photo he just wasn't born yet. The photo was taken on the farm where we were raised.

Evening Trail Ride

We went for a short trail ride.

It was a nice end to our busy day.  We worked on Christmas woodcarvings and we now have 80 ready to paint.  I mulched leaves in the neighborhood and along our road and the trails through the wild gardens. It was a very dusty job.

We got to watch the sunset.

This time of year the sun goes down really fast.

Happy Birthday Jen!

Our youngest daughter Jen is a bit older today.  She was born a number of years ago!

She gives her all to everything she does.  She loves whole heartedly and it shows in the people she surrounds herself with.

She is an especially good Great Aunt.  The children adore her.

Jen took care of Ree this summer so that Maddie could return to work before Ree was old enough to go to daycare.

Happy Birthday Jen!  May your day be extra special just like you!

Changing leaves

The leaves are beginning to change color.

Fall is most certainly here.  It was quite chilly yesterday with a high of 60 F or 15 C eh.

I mulched leaves on Friday for the second time.  The leaves are falling fast.

My other baby brother and she who sees robins first and their Grandson Jordan visited us yesterday.

Far Guy putzed with his old car Tilly, I am organizing paper for the Christmas cards and we now have 50 Christmas ornaments ready to paint. Progress is slow but sure.

Red Cars

I am usually impressed by pretty red convertibles.

Thunderbird

 Oldsmobile

Corvette

I think I like that Thunderbird the best.  I would have to think hard about that one if it were for sale...however our garage space is all used up.

Busy week

We had a couple of Dr appointments this past week.  The Eye Doctor is finally done with all his tests...results of the first tests are stable...knock on wood.  I have not heard about the second test yet...hopefully it will be okay.   I had Lab draws yesterday for the Rheumatologist who has taken me off of all medications and needs time to figure out what he was going to try next...  seems I have a very rare form of arthritis...nothing is ever simple.

I visited Mom one afternoon this week, there is Covid in the Nursing Home.  We had a Care Conference for her yesterday, I just went in the building as far as the conference room.  She is doing okay...someone took money out of her purse. So that made her very unhappy.

Far Guy had his normal weekly infusion.  The nurses in the Infusion Center are very good to him...I think they enjoy his sense of humor.

We have 30 woodcarved Christmas ornaments ready to paint. So that is progress.

I mowed our weeds and leaves one day this week.  I have brand new mulching blades to put on so I am quite excited about that!

We went to a car show one afternoon/evening. The last  car show of the Summer.  It was very "Fall like" with wind coming off the lake.

I am getting my paper supplies for Christmas cards ready for a Craft Retreat soon.

Mornings are very cool...almost nippy!  Our furnace is on.

Tiny Mistakes

I started a new project, first transferring stamped images to dish towels, and then embroidering them.

I was rocking the project and then bam...some small words were transferred with my image.  Huh...well ya big dummy everything that is in the image will transfer with the heat of your iron.

Oh well I can always use it myself ...or cover it up.

Some little cross stitches covered it up quite nicely.

Baptism

Our newest Great Granddaughter  Ree was baptized on Sunday.

Isn't she a beauty!

Maddie and Ree

The family photo.

Ree was happy to be held by her Great Grandpa!

She is immediately calmed by her Great Auntie Jen.

The baptismal gown was made out of my wedding dress and worn by all three of our Great Grandchildren.

Romans 6: 3-4

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Men Cooking

We had supper last night with friends.

Garden fresh vegetables from this garden.  That is Buddy near the garden.

And the men cooked.

Dave helping Joel cook on the wok made out of a old concave smooth disk blade from yes a farm implement called a disk.

The food was great and the conversation mighty fine too!

Quiet Day

We had a quiet day on Saturday.  We went to the landfill and recycled, there is increased traffic because of the road construction on the main highway.  We worked on the woodcarved Christmas Ornaments...Far Guy did all the carving and I just look them over and give them eyes.  We have 25 ready to paint.   That is a start. We need 100 plus. I hope to paint them all in October.

I figured out the design for the Christmas cards and cut some of the paper I need.

It was a cooler smoky day...the smoke chased us inside for most of the afternoon.  Naps prevailed.

Book Club: September

We had book club on Thursday.  I like it because it is virtual, I don't have to go anyplace.

We read two books by a fellow who lives in Minnesota.  William Kent Krueger.  There are 19 books in this series.   So far I have read #1, #2 and #11 ( read it out of order).  With #3 waiting in the wings.   The book club has decided not to continue with the series...two of the gals didn't really care for the books and another gal has read them all.

I gave the books an 8 out of 10.  I like books set in Minnesota and the author describes the scenery perfectly.

Town

This is one of the sculptures on Main Street.  Now that the majority of the tourists have gone home maybe I can photograph them all.

This one is called Big Money

Not sure what the artist was thinking.

Yesterday (Thursday) was a busy day.  Medical appointment to schedule after being on hold for what seemed like an eternity, grocery shopping and I made it back to the clinic before Far Guy was done with his weekly infusion...two sticks this week as there was a new gal practicing:(

Oh deer, deer, deer, deer

A doe and three fawns visited our yard aka snack bar yesterday.

I noticed movement out the living room window.

The doe was turning a real dark color.

The fawns were in three different stages...some spots, fading spots and almost no spots.   I wonder if the doe had triplets?  One fawn seemed larger than the others...perhaps it was an adoption.  They love the acorns.

Checking out the bird bath.

They wandered in the yard about twenty minutes and then disappeared off into the woods.

Spit

I could spit as much as it rained yesterday.   We are so dry.  The grass is dry and crunchy, leaves are littering the ground and acorns are everywhere.

Yes that is our lawn.

The deer have been in our yard every night eating acorns...I will have to rake some of them up as it is hard to walk on the acorns that roll under your feet.

I ran all kind of errands in town and managed to get the beige Dobby yarn for Ree's Halloween Hat. Stopped and saw my Mom for a bit.  She and a friend were working on a puzzle.  One of the old neighborhood guys stopped by the puzzle room to update us on his 88 year old brother who has been put on hospice.  It is a sad time for their family.

Still Hot

It was only 94 F yesterday, that is 34 C eh.   Far Guy woodcarved outside.  I found enough stuff that needed doing inside the house.  A massive grocery list, cleaned a bathroom, laundry, worked on a sorting project upstairs, figured out a pattern for a Dobby hat but don't have the right color yarn...go figure all the yarn in this house and I do not have beige:)

We had salad for supper and jambalaya that just needed to be warmed in the microwave.  No cooking for us.

Today I will attack that massive grocery list in town...all the tourists should be gone, I have an eye appointment for some test and I will probably go by the Nursing Home after locating some beige yarn.

Heat Wave

We are having a heat wave this Labor Day weekend.  It was 94 F or 35 C eh!  yesterday.  The heat hit me square in the face when I went outdoors.  Today it is supposed to be 96...good thing we have Air Conditioning!

It is really dry here, last night some idiots down on the lake were setting off fire works.  I can hope they were aiming over the water but you never know ...some people don't have half a brain. ( A sandwich short of a picnic, only one oar in the water...you get the idea)

Far Guy worked on the Christmas Ornaments.  I finally decided on my paper order for Christmas cards and ordered it.  I spent some time crafting, doing paperwork, laundry and other boring household stuff...and then had a nap.  Far Guy scared me awake when it was time for supper.

Great nephew Jordan visited us a couple of times over the weekend, he was here visiting his grandparents.  Jordan used to live next door...he belongs to my niece Katie and nephew Hunter.  Chance used to kidnap him and bring him to our house when Jordan was little and Chance wanted a boy of his own.   Jordan is going to school in Wahpeton ND to be a Diesel Mechanic...and it is closer for him to visit his grandparents than his parents....and we get to see him too!

22

Our youngest Grandson is 22 today.  Hardly seems possible that "The baby Grand is so old and tall!"

This is the photo I put on his birthday card.   The photo was taken in July.

Adam is attending college at UND.   His course of study in Engineering.  He is working part time and going to school full time so he is a busy guy.

We enjoyed seeing him for his birthday supper on Friday.  (His day off)

I was privileged to be there for his birth 22 years ago and to hear him cry for the first time and count his fingers and toes.

Happy Birthday Adam!

Sunflower

The Woodland Sunflowers are in full bloom.  It is so dry it is a miracle that anything is blooming.

Nice to see a spot of cheerful color!

We drove Up North to visit with Andy, Jen, Little Elvis and Sadie and have supper with Adam and his gal Courtney.  Noah had to work.  Any day you get to see a child, son in law, a Grand and dogs is a good day.

Baxter is three!

It was Baxter's birthday this week.  He was three years old on Monday August 28.  Beth sent me a photo of him.  Baxter is a Miniature Australian Shepherd that is on the tall side.  Baxter belongs to my baby brother and Beth.

Yesterday he and I spent some time together.

Such a pretty boy.  AND smart too, he listens to me quite well.

Sticking out his tongue a bit...I was out of treats.

Tired of me and my camera.  I took him out back for bit but he thought the photo session should be over and I should find more treats.

Ok treat lady, it is hot out here and it is cool inside where the treats are!

Happy Birthday Baxter!
