Interview: The Rest of the Story

They called me.  I was their choice.  Would I accept the position? My first thought was..they must be nuts..if they want me despite all my faults..they must be really hard up.

I am now the New Director of the local Historical Society and Museum.  It should be a challenge..they have many issues to resolve.  It is not by any stretch of the imagination a high paying influential job..but it should be an interesting one. Everyday should be different and I will be learning many new things.

Far Guy is supportive, he thinks he and Chance can get along without me for six hours a day for the summer. Not too much should change, I can still get out in the evenings to capture the wildflowers and I can still write everyday..although Far Guy has doubts that I will be able to keep up with all of my activities.  We will take it one day at a time and see what happens.

Old Courthouse This is the Old Courthouse where the Historical Society’s Museum is located, there are twelve large rooms.  Three other rooms are shared with a Local Arts Group.  Someplace in there is my office.

I am not sure that I made the right decision. I have many personal projects that are on going..things that are important to me..my scrapbooking, my blogs, my photography, my wild flower identification book, the family recipe book that I have been working on and last but not least wood carving.  I am never bored.

I have to make a list and get organized around here..and do the rest of the spring housecleaning..oh and go shopping..I guess I might need a dress or two..and maybe a new sweater for chilly days..and a new bag so I can take my lunch to work, and maybe a new pair of old lady shoes. I detest shopping.  I have a month to get my ducks in a row..before I start my new adventure:)

Well they sure picked the right person, you are the ultimate local history maven, just the right person for a local historical society to have leading them and tending their museum! What are your non summer hours going to be like and when does "summer" begin?

Congratulations - you sound like you will enjoy an interesting job with new challenges to take up, and as you were very upfront with them, you won't have to do anything you don't want to. Line up those ducks :-) Jo

How cool! You were frank and yourself, and that's what they wanted. Lucky you! Good luck with getting organized.

You will do a great job because you love history. It is obvious from everything you have posted. Working would not be difficult if there were someone at home to clean and cook. I wouldn't know about that though - - - but would love to experience it. It would then be the best of both worlds - - - the fulfillment of a career and the luxury of returning to my favorite place - - home - - - without having to do the work at my favorite place!
We are all looking forward to hearing about your new adventure - - - - - the place where they picked the most qualified and interested person!

Congrats on the new job! I'm sure you'll find a way to fit in all your activities. Sleep is over-rated, afterall. lol

You said "I am never bored", and with your sense of humor, anyone who comes into the Historical Society will not be bored either.

Go show 'em how it's done. :)

Yes Connie, you will do fine! I hope I haven't sounded too unsupportive when we've visited - I'll just miss our picture taking and the few excapades we've done. But maybe we'll still be able to find time on Sundays for that! jo

A local history blog is in the works, you have to, and get people trained to do the work to maintain it. It would be good for business too to have the things cataloged on a blog. Hey, I want the job, but it would be a long commute.
