Party on the lake

Last Sunday was the local Fishing Derby.  The annual party on the lake..everyone gathers, visits, fishes and has lunch.  There are lots of prizes.  Usually we go and have lunch.

Party on the lake

Yes, this is a lake.  A very frozen ice and snow covered lake.  Since the last snowstorm  dumped lots of snow..the trails out on the lake are not so great.  Many of the trails were narrow and flooded with water..especially after the holes for fishing were drilled. We could have parked and walked, my snow boots are warm but not waterproof…many of the trails looked icy.

We drove by a family of fisherman..they were obviously cheering their Mom on… and waiting for her to catch a fish.  She seemed really focused on the task at hand.

Cousin Lynne Fishing I hope she caught something!

It is too bad when there are so many things going on in the same day.  The Sleigh Festival in Hubbard is always the last Sunday in February and so is the Fishing Derby.  It was a beautiful day for both events.

Our weather has moderated..with highs in the 30’s  during the day ( that is –1C) ..seems almost spring like especially on sunny days.  It gets dark about 6 o’clock at night now..we have daylight for eleven hours now! :)

  7. I saw pictures of the sleigh festival on Livin it up Country. Wondered if you two met up there! :) Ice fishing is something I just can't get into. Cold and rather boring I would think but you are right, that lady was concentrating pretty hard!

  8. That's a lot of snow and ice still! But definitely Spring is on it's way. You can feel the extra warmth in the sun now, and loving those longer days. Only 10 days until the time change, will enjoy the longer evenings.

  9. It gets to be a sad situation when we think around freezing is warm, but it is compared to all the cold we are having. I am always amazed at the lake shots when frozen over. I had a student once who travel to Grand Mariais with dad and friends who didn't realize that Lake Superior was even around there where they stayed. He was shocked when I showed him the map where they had been.

  10. We didn't make it to the fishing derby this year... we usually make it a snowmobile destination, have a cup of hot cocoa and then wander and visit! I enjoy when we (bloggers) start connecting bloggers - such a small world! See you later neighbor!

  12. It's great that you attend events that are held outdoors. The more time we spend outdoors the easier the winter seems.
    We've had highs around 25-35 F (minus 4-plus 2 C) for about 3 weeks. It's been nice.

  14. I love being out on frozen over lakes. Shame about the trails not being in better shape though.

Lovely to have so much light - here too!

    Fabulous pictures.

  15. Connie, I am so glad that you do the conversion for me...otherwise I have no idea what is cold, and what is hot.

There are still people on the lake here, it makes me so nervous to drive by them and see them out there. It seems every year someone pushes it just a little too long, and crash....

  16. You have more fun things going on there than we do here all year! LOL! Those all looked like fun things to me! Glad the weather was nice for it all.
