After more than ten years my Forsythia finally had a few blooms, you could count them on one hand..but they were blooms none the less.
Now you must promise not to laugh..Okay..
Instead of being covered in blooms..there are only a few. But they are my favorite flower color..yellow..and they look all cheerful and sunshiny and yes sparse. I guess my threats from last year must have worked. I said I was ready to rip this plant up by the roots and be done with it. This year I got about four blooms..who knows what next year will bring.
Here is what it should look like.
Well, it's a start! At least it's some color after all your snow.
Just keep loving it and before you know it you will have the plant of your dreams. Nice to know your favorite color is yellow!
Hey my fav flower color is yellow as well !
Awesome photos though. Its amazing how mother nature works with plants. Have a great day !
Not to brag...we have a forsythia hedge that is/was a mass of blooms. Take that one you have out and replace it with a new one.
I wonder why it's so... sparse with the blooms, Connie. At least it has enough to keep you from replacing it, right?
Mine only blooms on the bottom too....I wonder if its the variety?
Dreams are a wonderful thing...keep trying...feed it something perhaps...do you trim it at the wrong time...NEVER in the fall...
Oh my, it's got a long way to go!
Maybe next year? Or buy a new one and plant it elsewhere, as already suggested? Jo :-)
Love the new header - - even if Chance is smaller than the birds! But then he's not yellow.
A gardener just has to take what she can get sometimes. Hope it does gang busters by next year!
Hooray! 4 blossoms! Celebrate the little things in life!
We were warned not to plant Forsythia at our current location. We are prone to late spring freezes and Forsythia is one of the early blooming shrubs. Maybe that's why you have so few blossoms.
We do have two Forsythia at our new house. They have blossomed yet and leaves are coming out - don't know if we'll get any yellow or not.
that is so sad. Here we finally got rid of the forsythia in our yard because it was trying to overtake everything else. It is one of the first blossoms around town and I do love them, though
I love forsythia! It is one of the first colours here blooming in a riot of yellow! Yours will come back just fine, it's a very hardy plant.
It was a tough winter.
MAN! Sigh! I too love those first flowers of spring.
Any chance birds are eating the buds all winter? The last two winters we've had juncos and cardinals and sparrows spending much of the winter nipping away at something in our forsythia. Suddenly a couple of months ago I realized they were eating the buds. We got TWO blossoms this spring. I guess it's a trade-off!
Let it bloom - hurray for some buds. Could this mean more on the way?
Mine never look like they are suppose to. I have the scant few few here and there. Others in town do well so I guess I have it in bad soil.
