We had book club yesterday. We read Soldier's Heart by Gary Paulsen. I give it a 9 out of a 10. It was a short but good read all about a young man who at the age of 15 joined the First Minnesota Volunteers in 1861.
All of the women in book club enjoyed the read. One thought it was a very simple read, perhaps a good read for Middle School children. I thought it would be good for any Social Studies or History class.
Far Side
I'll put this one on my list. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love all of Gary Paulsen's books. As a middle school teacher I could recommend his books to a reluctant reader and soon find that child asking for more of his books to read. Gary Paulsen died recently and wrote 200 books in his lifetime, most for a middle school audience but as an adult i enjoyed reading them. Some are quite humorous.
ReplyDeleteI'll look it up. I just finished my last book.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good read. I will be adding it to my list.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had much time to read lately, but I'll check this one out. How do you all go about selecting the books your group reads
ReplyDeleteShug , The gals all chose books they would like to read.
DeleteI might try it since you gave a 9!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Gary Paulsen has written other stories . I'll have to check with Mr Google.
ReplyDeleteI wish our library had it :( Sounds like an interesting book.
ReplyDeletePaulson's "Hatchet" is one of my all time favorite young peoples' books.
