Well it is August in Minnesota. Only a couple of months until it snows. The Oak leaves are starting to turn August brown. The lawn has brown dormant splotches. I hear there is some swimmers itch...you must shower after being in the lake or rub vigorously with a towel to avoid that itch....tiny bumps that itch like crazy.
The Deer Flies are here and I had a baby Walking Stick in my flower garden.
The Christmas Ornaments are coming along. There are two phases to the ornament...an ornament with other ornaments ( yes we might be nuts). 14 are complete to the first phase...Far Guy is brainstorming the second phase. I am painting and sealing more of the first phase. All woodcarving is complete on the first phase.
The Coneflowers are in bloom.

A two-part ornament. I'm curious. I've noticed signs of fall here, too. The first worn leaves are being blown off by the wind. It is darker in the morning when I get up.
ReplyDeleteAugust has definitely arrived here also. You are way too right about the snow flying soon. Enjoy the weather while it last. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe are beginning to see little signs of fall too. It's been a miserable summer. All the plants have struggled. Can't wait to find out more about your Christmas ornaments. Your coneflowers are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteAugust is here as is evident with the valley fog and sometimes damp cool mornings. It is a wonderful time here as my flowers near the porch are in bloom.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this month, once we get all the surgery stuff out of the way!
Yes, the sun is coming up later these days. I will be so happy when I can get outside in the wilderness once again, but in the meantime I'm reading some good stuff and keeping up with Blogland. I love your posts, Connie, you sure feel like family to me. :-)
ReplyDeleteDeer flies are horrible!
ReplyDeleteNever knew about swimmer's itch. Sounds just awful!
Love the coneflowers.
Can hardly wait to see your ornament design this year.
Deer flies! Their bites are painful.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of deer flies. However I am a huge fan of cornflowers! Hope things are going smoothly for you today.
ReplyDeleteSummer seems to take soooo very long to arrive and is over in a flash. We're starting to see more yellow in the leaves, mostly due to the dry weather we're having I think. I recall deer flies from my childhood on the farm - I hate them with a passion. Their bite is horrid!
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas ornaments sound intriguing!
I always hate to see August arrive..seems like the end of summer. So I go outside and soak up as much Summer as I can..for the next season is very short; then there is winter. AUGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH
ReplyDeleteHard to believe it's August. Days get shorter.
ReplyDeleteOrnament tease...ohhhhh.
ReplyDeleteOh now you really have me wondering what this year's ornament will be!
ReplyDeleteOne of my sons had that swimmers itch one year and it was pretty awful!
ReplyDeleteMy Coneflowers are blooming too but they're all in need of staking. Since they are growing in full sun I'm not sure why.
Wow.. you two are so ambitious with your Christmas ornaments. You're just amazing! Yes August has arrived here too. We have a couple more 80 degree days and then I see the extended forecast is for mostly 70s...which is ok with me. Somebody mentioned they had seen some red in a couple of trees but I haven't seen that yet, although I do see squirrels running around with nuts in their mouths. Doesn't the year go fast though. Prayers for you both these days and hope you get that call you're waiting for!
ReplyDeleteThey call it "duck itch" here and say it's caused by certain ducks doing their business in the lake. Luckily, our lake doesn't have it, although a couple around here do. Maybe our Loons scare off the ducks!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy run last night was plagued by deer flies. Drat those flies! The coneflowers are beautiful though. I noticed today, here in lower Michigan, that some of the sumac is already turning red. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that your summer is ending so soon. We at least have nice weather thru most of September, with the leaves starting to change at the end of September. But fall is my favorite season so I wouldn't mind if it was a little bit longer before winter set in!
ReplyDeleteI know you said the Minnesota snows will be there at your place in no time, but it was odd reading your comments on swimmer's itch and Christmas ornaments, almost in the same breath! Glad those Christmas ornaments are coming along, though. Do you play Christmas music to get yourself in the mood?
ReplyDeleteAugust is dry here and my perennials go into summer slump. So do I.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coneflowers. August here means dry, hot and wildfires. It's hard to believe that in only a few short weeks we will have to close up the camper for the season. It seems to go faster every year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I also am noticing changes, even though still warm. Goldenrod and sweet-clover signaling the decline of summer, and full, fat cattails. And tree frogs all over the windows in the evening. Don't work too hard. Phil
ReplyDeleteDeer flies are really bad here in Ontario too. I'm surprised we don't have swimmers itch in our lake yet.
