My Mother requested that a quilt be used under her urn. My sister and I thought about all the quilts that Mom had made...how do you pick one special one? I thought I knew which one or two were the most special. Mom carried around the embroidery on many travels she worked on the squares in the car and in the evenings. Turns out she lost track of the number of squares she made and she had too many...so she had to make two quilts. They were used on her bed and my Dad's bed at the apartment...before that they were used at their home. She was so excited when the quilts were completed!
The bluebird quilt. It became the inspiration for preparations to purchase a urn and flowers. My sister and I picked out two urns...both were very pretty. One would look lovely with the quilt. I am not sure who made the final call...one of us. My sister was in charge of the flowers, she made awesome choices.
I think that Mom would have liked it.

The quilt and the flowers are lovely. I'm certain your mom would have appreciated the care that was taken in selecting these objects.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was a quilter too. We wanted to place one of the quilts on her casket. However, she was buried from the Anglican church (her home church) and the initial itinerant minister was refusing that request and insisting on a pall. We called one of the previous ministers, a good friend, to do the service and my godmother switched out the pall for mom's quilt. Problem solved.
a beautiful tribute and memory for years to come...
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful flowers, all right. I think it's a wonderful arrangement. I also love that quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! You can see the work she put into it; you made the perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful!!! Of course, blue is a good color for me because it is the same as my eyes. There are definitely an abundance of hours represented there! You and your mom and Far Guy and Jen have a lot of patience and perseverance for the magnitude of your craft projects. You are to be commended for finishing them.
ReplyDeleteOh my - the display just brought tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful urn and flowers, and perfect with the bird quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm positive your Mom would have loved it - you all did a beautiful job.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful display Connie. The quilt is gorgeous and those flowers...I have no words about how stunning they are. You girls did a wonderful job in honoring your Mom's wishes in such a lovely way. As someone who embroiders, I can only imagine the time each of those square took. Your Mom was definitely a very talented lady and it seems to passed those talents on to her family. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us.

The bluebird quilt and the urn even go together. Must have taken such a long time to embroider all those bluebirds. Beautiful tribute and a special quilt.

ReplyDeleteThat's so lovely. Thank you for sharing that beautiful picture of your Mom's urn with the wonderful bluebird quilt she made and the flowers. So meaningful.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great choice as well as the urn. I was taken back at the flowers in your previous blog and they were so great. One who grows flowers looks at that arrangement and things of a flower garden.
ReplyDeleteOh my word.... the whole setting is absolutely beautiful! I love the bluebird quilt as they are one of my favorite birds. She was an excellent quilter. I am certain that your Mom was overjoyed with the love and attention you gave her both in life and after.
