The Deer are eating many of the wildflowers this year. Far Guy had a Strawberry plant in a hanging basket and they munched all the leaves off and left the stems.
They also ate most of the Bee Balm...buggers anyway.
Last year was a good year for Bee Balm. This year not so much.
We have a doe without a fawn hanging around. I see her quite often when I am mowing.
Far Guy is feeling a bit better, good enough that he could accompany me to a Doctor appointment in Fargo North Dakota....the Clinic was not busy at all. It was still a long day for him with traffic and detours.

We have lots of deer and so take a three pronged attack. We plant things the deer won't touch, we fence in plants down low that they will touch so that they can't touch, or we hang it high enough they can't reach it. Despite our efforts and the efforts of neighbors on both sides who shoot a handful of deer each fall, we still get some things munched on if they are hungry enough.
Bummer. Our bee balm is doing well. But normally the deer around here don't come so close to the house in the summer.

I'm glad FG is feeling a tad bit better.
Those hungry deer! I think I have a young cottontail lying in my petunias in the one planter and nibbling away. Flowers are pretty far down on the circle of life totem pole, I guess.

Those deer do eat pretty much everything. And glad to hear FG is a little better.
Is the smoke from Canada impacting his breathing too? I'm glad he is feeling a little better, and hope he keeps improving. The deer did a lot of damage to our pine trees last winter - eating all the needles off the branches they could reach since the snow was so deep. We have a doe with twin fawns, but I haven't seen the fawns yet. Our neighbor showed me a photo of them yesterday. And we have a TON of baby turkeys running around.
I live in town and we have a bunch of does and fawns in our neighborhood. Everyone thinks they are so cute when they catch them on their doorbell cameras. Until they go out in the morning and all their flowers are gone. My neighbor just lost a hedgerow of day lilies.

I'm glad to read that Far Guy is a bit better. I couldn't believe the construction going on when we were driving cross country. Worse than normal that's for sure. It took forever to get across S. Dakota.

Huh- I read that deer don't like bee balm. I grew red bee balm in Creston but don't have any here. The flowers and leaves make wonderful tea.
I'm so glad Far Guy is doing better. My hopes and prayers are that he can get back to doing all those things he loves doing.

Sorry! It sure is disappointing when you look forward to fruit/blooms. Deer ate half my strawberry leaves too this year, for the first time (raised bed). With our drought, our deer are eating plants they don't usually bother. I found a product on a stake (applied once) called "Deer Off" by Safer. It worked for me, and saved the other half of my small strawberry bed.

The deer have eaten my pansies, my clematis, and the buds off my hibiscus plant. There's a million flowers on the rose of Sharon but they don't touch those....go figure!
I hope FG continues to feel better and that the long drive wasn't too exhausting.
When we had a garden, I cursed the deer! Really!🥰 how long does it take for you to get to Fargo? Just curious.
Deer are sky critters. They are pretty good at outsmarting us.
Galla Creek, It usually takes 1 hour and 45 minutes it is about 90 miles. But with the big Detour you can plan on 2 1/2 hours....so that is five hours in the car for the round trip.

Oh I'm glad to hear that far guy is feeling a bit better. What a shame that the deer ate his strawberry plant...I really like those! Haven't seen one in a long time.
My bee balm would not have been good to the deer as it was just bad. Drought related from two years past. I am glad Far Guy could go with you.
