Light

 Let there be some light!

I wanted to put up some lights....I wanted white lights.  I have blue and red...I just wasn't feeling those colors.

Leah had some white lights for sale on the local swap and shop Facebook site.  She dropped them off on her way into town and I commenced decorating. ( Leah has been a faithful blogger for years!)

Before

After ...the colored lights in the window are the solar lights that are outside under the bird feeders.

So we have some light...along with two Santas and a metal container with a Chickadee on it with some sparkly stuff and an old light bulb ornament.

When I crochet at night I use a floor lamp with a three way bulb.  My bulb lost it's high setting yesterday...my baby brother was going to town so I asked him to pick up a bulb...he came back with a smart bulb that was smarter than we are.

  3. My son has a 'smart' house. He can turn lights on and off by telling the house to do it. He has lights that sense motion at night and glow to light your way. Neat but a bit too techy for me!
A smart bulb? Does it get brighter as you crochet? :)

  4. Very pretty! And a creative way to shop, too. I ordered items for an Angel tree child on November 30. The social worker needed them yesterday. They seem to be lost in Indiana at this point. I just scheduled a curbside pick up at a Target in the next big town. And it has started snowing.

  5. That looks so pretty! That is what I need to do with my fireplace mantle. Some sparkly white lights behind the silver stocking holders would make things look even more festive.

  6. I like white lights too. When my parents lived in Opelika AL they lived in the old section of town and every Christmas people for blocks put up white lights outside. My folks started with a couple of strings of white lights and by the time they moved away ten years later had their whole front yard covered in white lights just like all the other houses. It sure made for a fairyland, all those lights as far as you could see.

  7. *haha* about the smart bulb. Lots of folks have a "smart tv", whatever those are. I always say I don't want anything smarter than I am... and it doesn't take much! *lol* I love your white lights... they're magical. ~Andrea xoxo

  9. Your window looks beautiful! I love the lights, Santas and greenery. The old light bulb looks like your new carved ornaments! I know what you mean about all these smart products today. They can be a little intimidating!

  11. I prefer white lights too. I'm not sure why, I just really like them. My twinkly lights make the trailer so cheerful at night.
Your decorations are lovely and the lights make a huge difference. Jinx sure gets around doesn't he? I think he is the supervisor at your house.
    Blessings,

  14. I love having lights twinkling all year 'round. I do take down most of the multi-coloured ones after winter is done but the white ones stay lit and are on timers so they can light up the evenings inside and out.

  15. Just found your blog. We remember Merriam's Show. Wasn't Marty Frey an insurance agent. He used to have diggers on Bernie Davidson's show. After he left in Ankeny, we booked the show. Stayed there for years. Bernie had the 'irish disease'. Your memories are similar to ours my wife's family has been in show business since forever. Her Mom was a Wells. 16. Very pretty. We usually have white lights on the fireplace mantle but this year we decided to go with ... yellow! Funny how some years your feeling one way and another year, not so much.

  17. White lights can be left up much longer than colored ones because they don’t scream, “Christmas!”

  18. Wow! Those lights really "light up" the place! LOL! Very pretty! Lights are scarce in the stores so you are fortunate!

  19. The lights look great! They add a lot.
I have always loved multi-colored lights since I was a kid. I keep them up all year around my patio door and studio window. Due to covid, for about a year I have been looking at half a strand of lights across the top of my patio door. Last night Leah installed my new set of lights and I LOVE them! They really make a difference.
A smart bulb, eh? What next! LOL!

  20. Our only lights are on our tree. I used to decorate the "house" back in college. I was the only one with Christmas Spirt back then.. Or at least the only one with money for Christmas lights. I would bring them all home and decorate our huge Blue Spruce in the yard next to the house. Mom would say all the neighbors would know when I finally got home from College each year... because the tree was fully decorated overnight. ( It was at least 25 ft tall!)

  21. Your lights look so pretty in the window with the santa. Did you do a tree this year? I can't remember. Have a great rest of your week.

  23. That looks great. I have a clear string without a home so I thank you for the idea! We went to the family far for dinner tonight. On the drive home we took the longer route so we could take in my light displays. It was such fun. Haven't done that since Granny passed away.
