Wistful Wednesday: Chaucer 2002-2018

Chaucer was born sometime in 2002.  He had a best friend named Keats.   They were a rambunctious pair…they technically belonged to our Grandsons…Keats belonged to Adam and Chaucer to Noah.  The kittens spent some time with us here when the family moved from Mapleton to Hawley.  They were balls of energy and explorers…our house was not finished yet and they thought it was great fun to walk around in the heat ducts and race around like they were being chased by the devil himself.  Unfortunately Keats met an early death so Chaucer became an only cat.  Keats is buried on our property along side Keshia Grey another good kitty.

Chaucer our Grandcat

Chaucer loved us and would come running when he heard our voices…he liked to be scratched under his chin.

He was a guest blogger for me one time.  What does the cat say.

He was a good kitty.  A good friend to both of our Grandsons.  They learned all about pet ownership and repsonsibility with the kitty. Yesterday they learned all about the sad part of pet ownership. Chaucer had quit eating and drinking, at the Vets he was xrayed and they found a huge mass in his abdomen….so they said their goodbyes.

What a handsome cat he was. To be missed fondly and remembered is the best memorial any of us can ask for. Rest in peace Chaucer.

:( lots of sadness when all the great pets are about the same age - we seem to do that in waves also.

Wonderful cat. Our pets never seem to be with us long enough.

Yes - that is the sad side of pet ownership for sure. I put my foot down when we moved from the farm into town in 1988 and said "no more pets". I was tired of crying over cats and dogs. That lasted from 1988 until the fall of 2001 when my HS senior daughter brought home a kitten. And 17 years later we still have him - a spoiled, arthritic geriatric cat. We do love them.

How sad. Kids grow up with pets and then face the difficult experience of losing them. Chaucer was a beautiful cat. I am so sorry.

It hard to lose a cat. Our new daughter-in-law of then years now means we will never ever have a cat again.

Oh I’m so sorry you have to say goodbye to yet another beloved pet. Chaucer is a beautiful cat. Adopting Mandy’s two geriatric cats is a mixed blesseg. They are both so sweet but we’re getting even more attached than we were before they came to live with us. And they’re old. Prayers for all of you as you say goodbye.
Blessings,
Betsy

So sorry to hear about Chaucer. The children's book Cat Heaven by Cynthia Rylant helped me when we had to say goodbye to our Mocha. Hugs to you!

So sad that you lost Chaucer. Our pets leave such a big hole when they cross the Rainbow Bridge.
