Favorite things

We have a shelf above our computers.  That shelf holds some of my favorite things.   I usually display a old photo there but recently I was given a photo of my niece’s children.  The baby who was born a few weeks ago was nicknamed “seven” by my baby brother (Grandfather to these little ones).

Shelf above my computer

See those little ones?  They live in Oregon.  The new babies name is really Xavier, he looks upset, big brother Cruz looks unconcerned and big sister Marley might have a puzzled look on her face.  They are beautiful/handsome children. I display photos and cards with old flower frogs.  My baby brother says the new babies name is pronounced X-zavier.  I had to ask as I know there are about three ways the name is pronounced.

You may also see my decks of cards with our Grands and Chance, a Border Collie figurine, a wood acorn that was a possible Christmas Ornament but didn’t make the cut.  My newest Little Golden Book is Doctor Dan The Bandage Man that has two bandages on the first page.  It is a fun book to read! And those boxes, well they are full of “stuff.”

We may be seeing more of my baby brother, he bought four more acres and a lake home that ajoins his property on the north side of what is now being called “the compound.”  (We live on the south side of the compound.)  I hope he puts in a nice dock with a bench so we can go down there on warm summer evenings!

A sweet photo of the little ones and a great location as I suspect it's a spot you spend a lot of time. Marley has the cutest cheeks! And a dock over the water to spend summer evenings sounds so relaxing. I hope your brother has one in mind!

Names can be confusing can't they? I would say Zay-vier and I know some would say Zav-ier. I've never heard X-zavier in the UK - only on US TV or films. Do you think "Seven" will stick as a nickname? It's certainly different. And cute too.

I do my best to pronounce names as the owner (or parents) pronounce them but have been offended many a time by people who think my name is pronounced "Geraldine". I am sure you can tell that isn't right!

Those boxes of "stuff" are intriguing. I like the name Xavier, very unusual. :-)

Glad you surround yourself with fun favorite stuff. I like that the acorn did not make "the cut" - - don't know if you intentionally meant it as a pun on woodcarving but it works!

Favorite objects connect you to your memories. That's why it's so great to keep them in plain sight. I like the way you have arranged them. Very pleasing!

Cute photo of the kids!

Teachers frequently struggle with not only pronunciation of names but also the creative spellings of common names: ask me how I know that. . .

I love your shelf display.

I have that Dr. Dan book, still complete with the bandage. I used to read it to my brother who always wanted to pick off the bandage. But I saved it!!!

As I pack to move I am finding lots of favourite things and some not so faves. One of the things that has me excited is that we will have lots of room for a big Christmas tree- yay! No more squeezing a tiny tree in the corner of a crowded living room!
I love the new header- tell Chance he looks quite fluffy. Must have just been groomed.

Hi there, I follow your blog and noticed the mention of Oregon. That's where I am on northwest corner right by the ocean. Cool and rainy here today after
many days of sunshine. Like your shelf of treasures and have one also.

Yes, I like your shelf of favourite things too. Rotating our "stuff" makes us take notice I find. I hope your brother does build that dock with a bench. If he reads your blog he might just get the hint.

Shelves like that are fun. I am glad baby brother is moving closer. I would send him some plans for a nice bench to be made for the shore.

I love your collection of 'treasures' and the children are so precious. Wouldn't that be great to have your little brother closer....especially if he builds the dock and provides the bench! LOL!
