Chance : Treats for me

The sickies felt good enough to make me some treats….well one just took photographs.

Treats for Chance

You mix it all up and turn it on high!

Not ready yet

Plop it on a pan. Then roll it out with the pumpkin can and then cut it into squares…someone missed a bunch of photos.  Did you see that squirrel?

In the oven drying

Then they are baked turning once and when the oven gets shut off the door is opened and they dry out.

Stored in a dog proof jar

Then they are put in a dog proof jar.  Many more were put in the freezer.  They have no preservatives so…so you know green fuzzy stuff can grow on them if they are in the jar for too long…that is where I come in…I make sure that doesn’t happen.

Want the recipe? So you can make your best friend one of the happiest dogs on earth?

Chance’s Favorite Dog Treats

One Can of Pumpkin ( Far Side likes Libby’s Pumpkin)

4 eggs

4 Tablespoons Dry Milk

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

5 Cups Brown Rice Flour

Mix well!  Roll onto cookie sheet 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. (Far Guy uses the pumpkin can.)  You can use fancy cookie cutter in the shape of a dog bone but Far Side just cuts them in squares leaving a bit of a space between them, sometimes she pricks them with a fork all fancy like.   Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, turn them over and bake for 20 more minutes.  Allow to dry some with the oven door open.  Store in Freezer.

We have tried lots of recipes for pumpkin treats…this is the best one we have found…I have taste tested them all.

That has been on my "to do " list for a good while now. I have not made pumpkin but I've made blueberry and a cheddar apple. I have special flours for them too but I don't think I have brown rice flour. I'll have to give these a try when I find that flour or order it. They sound good to me!
When I make mine I use a tiny round cutter I have from who knows where about the size of a silver dollar. The dog cookie cutters are way too big...the ones I have anyway. Glad you're feeling better!

Chance, you are pretty darn fortunate to have such treats, home made and sounding delicious! Are they just for you or do other people get to taste them, too? Yum! :-)

I love the way you write the posts from the dog's perspective. The are always so humorous and creative. And great idea for making the dog treats. We have a couple of dogs but I'm not sure I'm motivated enough to make their treats. I'll keep this recipe in mind though. Chance is one blessed dog!

Thanks for the tip, Chance....my doggies would love these, and you are so lucky to have your family, even if they are sickly.

Those squirrels do get to be out of control. Barney hates it when he doesn't notice one in the bird feeder. He runs really fast to chase them away. Button just does the extra barking that is required to get the pest out of the yard. The snacks you eat chance sound good enough for me to eat. Take care and stay warm.

I will pass this on to Amy, who by chance, received a doggy recipe book in her Christmas stocking.

I remember making dog treats when I had dogs many years ago. I also made bird treats when I had my birds. Chance obviously loves his pumpkin treats!

I wouldn't have thought a dog would like pumpkin but Chance must have excellent taste - I'll see if Zoey the German Shepard or Jane the Beagle would like some!

Sounds good!

Chance, thanks for the recipe. All the dogs here at Victory Farm & Gardens are no longer on "dog" food. This would be a fun intermediate treat for them.
