Book Club

We had book club.  We read Something in the Water...I give it a five out of ten stars ...for a Bestseller  it was a train wreck of a book.  Who gets to pick those books anyways?  We also read Anne of Green Gables some of the gals have not finished it so we will review it again next month...I am about half done with the book and I am enjoying it as much as the series on Netflix.   I give the book a ten!  The series follows the book quite closely.

Now we are to read The Radium Girls, I tried to watch the Movie on Netflix and fell asleep I do hope the book is better than the movie.

What good books have you read lately?

I have just been reading mystery books by several authors. I read a series of books by Simon McCleave that was pretty interesting. I read for a fast fun get away.
I study a lot of guides and books regarding things that grow in the woods.
I read most of the classics as a kid.
There you go, kind of a boring list of reading.

Anne of Green Gables was my favorite book to read when I was growing up. Loved the movie also.

I usually ignore the so-called bestsellers list, because half the time I'm not sure how the books got to be on it, since they're rubbish. I've read Anne of Green Gables though, and am delighted to hear the new series follows it so well... Now I'm even more eager to watch Anne With An E.

I am trying to read Possession by AS Byatt. It’s supposed to exhilarating and witty but I just can’t seem to get into it. So instead I am rereading an old favourite: The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer. It’s a historical novel but don’t let that put you off. I know some people won’t read them. It makes me laugh every time I read it.

A recently read Don Lemon's new book, "This Is the Fire," and enjoyed it very much. It was pretty political, though. :-)

Good morning, the spider lily is incredible! I am an intermittent reader and would not do well in a book club. Lol
I have googled SC authors and found a few that I am interested in when I get in the mood to read, it has been a while since I have read anything.

No books read here. It's all I can do to try to answer people blogs daily. The boxes Dennis brought back are stacked in the garage and although I emptied about 10 kitchen boxes yesterday afternoon, they seem to be multiplying as the stacks aren't getting any smaller. We did however, buy a TV yesterday and get it hooked up to Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have no idea what I did with. the chromecast device when I got here. I hope it didn't get thrown out somewhere. We have opted to not get cable and just have an antenna for local channels and then watch online things. Not much good on TV anyway.
Now that we have Netflix again, maybe I'll find time to watch Anne of Green Gables.
Take care and have a great Tuesday Connie.
Blessings and love,
Betsy

I grew up without a television for nearly 40% of my life thus far so I have a pretty healthy reading habit. My problem however is that I have sworn off fiction for about the last 20 years and most book clubs are full of fiction. The rare non-fiction clubs seem to be into some pretty dry dribble too frequently for my tastes and so I just go solo.

I haven't read Radium Girls but it has been on my radar the next time I have a gift certificate for books burning a hole in my pocket. I finished The Code Breaker which scratched a science nerd itch about CRISPR which has been in the news in recent years. I'm currently reading a book that has been in my stack for awhile called Hero Found: The Greatest POW Escape of the Vietnam War. It thus far seems really well written and captures my interest fully.

Watching more movies and series than reading lately. But I do love a good book. :)

Anne of Green Gables is a book I've read several times. I loved it so much, along with the PBS series. I'm currently rereading Without Remorse by Tom Clancy. I probably read it right away in the 90s when it was published, but seeing the movie advertised made me want to read it again. Probably won't see the movie, but I am enjoying the book - again.

I'm bogged down in the book " A Prayer For Owen Meany" by John Irving. It was on a list of books everyone should read, it's long, it's not about much, but it is somehow entertaining enough to keep reading even though it puts me to sleep. Sleep is good, right?

I read The Gilded Hour and then the 2nd book....Where The Light Enters....both excellent in MHO. I agree, it does make you wonder sometimes who chooses the books to be Best Sellers. I remember several "classics" that were some of the worst books I ever read! LOL!
The Spider Lily is very pretty! So glad you guys went when you did as now is not good for travel at all.

I have to admit that in the last year I haven't read much. I do have a book on the go, Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett. I've read several of his books and enjoy them very much.

Yesterday, I did a bunch of yardwork and when I finished I sat out on the patio and read for 90 minutes. It's been a long time since I spent that much time reading!

Have a wonderful day!

In the summertime I don't read much. Too many other things I want to do. We are watching Anne with an E on Netflicks in the evenings. I read the Anne books years ago and enjoyed them.

I have been re-reading some of my cozy mystery books. I have three nonfictions on deck, A Wilder Rose by Susan Wittig Albert, Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts and The Roosevelt Women by Betty Bond Carroll. But I want to concentrate when I read these and I have too many young grandchildren here lately.

I’m interested to hear how you do on Radium Girls. I gave up after maybe 25% but I can’t remember why. Life is too short to finish a book if you don’t like it. (I didn’t use to think that and completed every book I started but then I got older and realized my reading days are limited ....). Loved Anne of Green Gables and have read it aloud to my girls several times.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (he wrote Man Called Ove). Reading again All Creatures Great and Small as a check against the PBS series (they changed the story quite a bit)... Quite a Year for Plums by Bailey White...Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout...
