Chance and I went for a ride yesterday afternoon. It was so windy that our leaves that we had raked and blew into the woods were blowing back out again. Talk about discouraging..there is a new pile in front of the step.
We stopped at Round Lake.
There were white caps on the lake.
No boats out on the lake today. The water was a beautiful color amongst all the new color of fall..shades of brown.
On the way home we saw two black labs on the side of the road that came up onto the road, as if to say “hey ..we need help.” I slowed down..I am in the middle of nowhere..the nearest house is maybe four miles away. One of the dogs had been quilled..by the evil porkypines.. and looked fairly miserable. Both looked lean..I felt sorry for them, they appeared to be littermates. Since one was injured and both were quite large dogs I chose not to stop. Hopefully they were on their way home and had not been abandoned..I did not notice collars or tags. Did I tell you that I felt sad..really sad for animals stuck in a situation that could have been avoided. I kept telling myself that maybe their hunter owner was just off in the woods calling for them..I know I am a bit of a dreamer…always expecting the best of people:(
Oh - poor dogs. Can't you call the police or something to come and take care of the dogs?
Sad about the dogs. I too was watching the leaves blow from across the street into my yard.
Poor dogs that are left on their own. Some dog owners need to be dumped out in the middle of no where!
Me too!!! I'm quite trusting and gullible that way. Hopefully, like ya thought the owner wasn't far away, poor things.
The color of the water is just amazing in your pic. Chance looks as if he is in charge of the lake!
Have a superior day fill with wonderful Autumn blessings!!! :o)
I would have had to do something ....around here we call the police or dog officer.
I am sorry to say there is no dog officer..and the Police..well it is not their job. I have found that no one wants to get involved with abandoned dogs unless they are chasing deer then the DNR guys will come out and shoot them:(
Oh, I am so sorry you had to see the dogs because it is a sight that doesn't go away even when we can't do anything to help. We have a couple of rescue agencies here in our city that would have gone for them.
Speaking of dogs, I noticed Chance looking at the water rather than frolicking in it. Guess he realized that it was too cold.
You may have mentioned before - - but how many lakes are in your area? You have probably repeated some names but seems like there are a lot of different ones on your posts.
Poor babies :( Makes me so sad. I'm sorry you had to see them because I'm sure it is still bugging you.
Nice pictures of the water. And Chance.
Touch to hear about the dogs. I know it must have been hard to leave them and drive on home. Darn.
I'm glad you didn't stop you could of been hurt.
2 large dogs 1 injured & Chance with you, Might of been a big fight.
Chances are slim to none they would have been there if you came back with help.
Hopefully they have a home.
You did the right thing.
I hate to see a loose dog (or 2) on the road. I know I can't help all of the critters but it's hard not to stop.
Lovely photographs, as always.

Yes, between the two of them they did find their way home. Dogs have a great sense to find their way. It was a situation where you really couldn't do much but wish them well.
