Far Guy had an appointment to get his new/old car detailed.
It took the better part of a day!
After we picked it up we went out for early supper.
It has been a number of years since we have been to the A & W... used to be a carhop and a tray hanging on your window...now it is a push the button and order what you want and they bring it out in a bag. Oh well the fries were excellent and the cheese curds awesome! No drink holder in the old car...that was something we noticed right away...I set my drink on the floor and Far Guy juggled his in one hand.
Next stop the gas station...only a few places in town have the "right" gas. It seems the old girl got 13.6 mpg but that may be an error.
It was a nice outing and we were back home by six pm.

That car certainly has some Class! It must be great cruising around in her :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you two had a fun Date Night out. Haven't been to an A & W in a long time. In fact I haven't seen one around here in ages. Glad you were able to do this.
ReplyDeleteI remember the tray on the window and carhop days too.
ReplyDeleteCheese curds are not on the menu at our A&W. Hmmm.
When he gets around to painting the Desoto what colour will she be?
Some paint with a metal fleck in it! Possibly the same color or the color of the inside of the doors which is a rose gold:)
Deletegosh, the car sure looks pretty! What a lot of fun you've gotten out of it already. :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they no longer do the trays because of Covid or if they had done away with them before then. I bet Far Guy gets lots of compliments on the new old car when you're out and about, and I'm sure he loves every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun date night! It’s a wonder the old window trays aren’t piled in antique stores. I remember them well . . .
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day and a great day. And you two were smart enough to enjoy it. Hope today is good, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day. We used to go the the A & W in Chamberlain, SD on our way to the Black Hills on vacation most years when we lived in NE before. It's a great memory for the kids. A few years back they converted it to a bank. So sad. Car hops seem to be a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteThe car is looking wonderful. How fun to take a spin for dinner.
Blessings,
Betsy
We have Burgermasters here with carhop service. At this point they bring things out on a tray but it is all packaged up due to restrictions. It was fun to go there at the beginning of restrictions because they could still stay open!
ReplyDeleteLook at that ole girl, would ya??!!! WOW!!! She's still got it and then some! It sounds like a perfect outing... plus no supper to make when you got home. Perfect!! ~Andrea xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun date night. A & W was one of my favorite places - summer Sunday drives with my parents often ended in Redwood Falls for supper at the A & W, then going to a drive in movie. Root beer in those frosty mugs - YUM!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar issue with the Bonneville - She needs 93 gas or above, and only a handful of stations have it.
ReplyDeleteNice date! I bet you get some looks as Far Guy drives it around town. Envious ones, I'm sure. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great! A date night is just perfect. I recall those days with the car hops. There is a place in LaCrosse, WI that still does that with the car hops on roller skates and classic cars on Tuesday nights!
ReplyDeleteI got to thinking about those days when car hops in their cute short skirts came and hung the tray on the car window. Those were the good old days!! When I even ate a burger from time to time (veggie burgers had yet to be thought of at least in the prairies).
ReplyDeleteWell of course you had to eat at a drive in restaurant when you were out in the new old car. Too bad the car hop and tray were missing, but fun anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wonder, when did manufacturers start putting cup holders in cars?
I bet whoever detailed the car enjoyed seeing that beauty! I don't even think we have A&Ws around here any more. I remember how good that frosty mug of root beer tasted when I was a kid!
ReplyDeleteYes, carhops and trays on windows. That was the beginning of drive ins.
ReplyDeleteNot only does the car give you both pleasure, I am sure everyone who saw it remarked on it's beauty. Great gift!
ReplyDeletePerfect stop A&W.
You may have told us before, but because I have slept since then...has Far Guy named her?
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful way to spend a day!!!!!
ReplyDeletesounds like a fine time! and isn't the car looking spiffy now! I love A & W too.
ReplyDeleteWow, it really shines. It is a good looking car style. We drove through Culvers tonight and brought it home to eat.
ReplyDeleteLookin’ good! If A&W had cheese curds down here, I’d be in line every other day. I do miss that culinary delight.
ReplyDeleteYou guys sure are having fun cruisin'!! Bet your classy car is turning some heads.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice date night, even if things don't work quite how they used to.
