This is a photo that my mother took on the first day of school.
I was a Junior that year, my other baby brother would have been almost 7 years old and in 1st Grade and my baby brother would have been in 8th grade that year.
Looks like we have all the school supplies we need. This was way before book bags or backpacks. My mother must have thought my other baby brother was going to grow some and those pants could be rolled down as needed.
I think that plant was called Gold Drops. It was an old plant that almost everyone had in their flower gardens.

My husband remembers having his pants rolled.
You all look so well put together. And looking at the picture, I wonder what it is that marks it as "old." Could almost be taken today, methinks. Except that everybody looks a little dressed up by today's standards. :-)
Back then we really could have used backpacks. I had a big shoulder bag. All us girls had purses to carry supplies: pens, rulers, protractors, pencils, erasers, paper clips. I was a go-to person if anyone needed anything from a Kleenex to a safety pin. I even had a Tiny Tot stapler and scissors. When I went to college at 48 it was the same thing. Kids knew they could come to me for a pen, stapler, or even a cough drop...but then I had a back pack!
Obviously I LOVED buying school supplies and getting ready for school. May be a big reason I love Fall the best. I was one of those weird kids who absolutely loved school. :) And we girls had to wear dresses or skirts and blouses like it looks you did, too. The boys couldn't wear jeans. They had to wear dress pants and a shirt. Times have changed with the dress codes, that's for sure. :)
Ahhhh...1967. I would have been 11, sort of between your little brother and your other little brother. I remember the girls had to wear dresses or skirts. That didn't seem weird at the time, and I don't even remember when it changed so that we could wear pants, or (whoa!!) jeans. I remember the skirts had to come down to our knees. I don't remember the boys having too many restrictions on what they wore, but I'm sure they had some rules.

Love it. Hmmm, in 1967 I would have been 11 also. I recall wearing my brand new shiny shoes and wanting penny loafers. I recall wearing skirts too which I didn't like too much. I did love the excitement of the first day, the smell of everything clean and new.
I too would have been 11 in 1967, well 10 at the start of school, and 11 in a couple of months. Can't remember a thing about it. That's a great picture of the three of you!

I remember those days well - struggling with a stack of books on the bus to and from school.
What a wonderful picture! I remember those days when we had to wear dresses. I think they changed the rules and let girls wear pants the year after I graduated. I graduated in 1970 and never wore anything but dresses and skirts to school. I've hardly ever worn a dress since then! I remember my brothers wearing jeans rolled up like that when they were young. Thanks for the trip back in time!
I was very cutting edge back in 1970 as a college freshman when I bought an Army Surplus backpack. One of the Senior girls in the dorm borrowed it from me and I never saw it again. Along with a few beloved record albums. She disappeared along with my stuff.

You and I are very close in age. Such a pretty dress, and I wonder if you made it. Be that age I had taken sewing in 4-h and made most of my own clothes and before that my mom made them. Your baby brother looks less than thrilled with it being the first day of school!

You looked very nice in your pretty dress.In 1967 I was married and had a 2 year old and an infant. We were getting ready to leave the prairies and move to B.C.
What a great picture! If I didn't have my school pictures there would have been no pictures of me! LOL! We looked very similar and I was a senior that year. To this day I think I have bad posture from lugging all those books in my arms!
