It stopped raining and we got some visitors!
Scarlet Tanagers and Indigo Buntings
I wonder if they migrate together since they showed up on the same day.
We decided that the Baltimore Orioles cannot be far behind so we put up the renovated feeder. It is a tad bright!
We put out grape jelly and just one orange for now.
Here is a great photo of a male and female Scarlet Tanager. She got the short end of the stick in the color department. They like suet…and I have seen them suck down some grape jelly.
If they are true to form they will be here just a few days before they move on. My bird book says they like Oak forests…I wish they would stay. As you can see the oaks are just beginning to pop out.
Chance and I can be entertained for hours just watching the birds.
Once upon a time when I cleaned houses for a living, I was working in her upstairs studio (where she made her quilts) and a Scarlet Tanager landed on the window sill --perhaps he was going to fight with his reflection -- right in front of me. I got to see it right up close and persona, such an incredibly beautiful bird inches away. It was amazing. Thank you for the beautiful pictures. I have had Baltimore Orioles drinking from the "orange feeder" in the past but haven't seen one for several years. They too are spectacular
I love to see these beautiful brilliant birds. We have a few brightly colored ones, but nothing like these guys. :-)
It's a gray day here, and your colorful photos brightened things up a bit.
So colorful! My mother has always had birdfeeders — and I used to spend hours watching the birds when I was a kid. Looking at these photos brings back memories.
I rarely see brightly-colored birds in my yard. Your photos are wonderful.
Lucky you, just beautiful.
I wish we had those birds here! They lovely!
What a beautiful thing to look out and see. We get blue birds but not the other lovely birds.
Only ONE time have I seen the Indigo at Nalley Valley. Last year, right before we moved from our last house, I saw the tanager. Amazing color. You captured some fun photos. You guys enjoy the day.
Yahoo! Good to see such brightly colored birds coming for a visit. And I love your bird feeder! :)
In the summer we have Scarlet Tanagers but they stay in the tree tops. Every now and then Poppy will spot one. He recognizes their call. We have just a few Indigo Buntings that come close. It is funny seeing the two colors together there.
Well if I see an oriole flying through I will let you know that it is coming. We never see the other two colorful birds. You did a good job capturing them, both kinds at the same time.
You ave some very attractive birds to watch.
Oh my they are so beautiful.lucky you for the pretty visitors, thanks for sharing with us, Blessings Francine.
They are such pretty birds! I only rarely see them in my yard. Just as we rarely see an oriole. I did catch a glimpse of blue at the feeder today and am hoping it is an indigo bunting and that it will be back!
I am not sure you and Chance share the same reason for being entertained...
What beautiful birds. I would want them to stay too.
Karma and I could be entertained for hours, too. They're so bright and rich with color, but I can watch little house sparrows, too. :)
The colors together are brilliant! How wonderful they visited your yard at the same time.
I'm catching up backwards - yup still jealous you have those colorful visitors!
Wow, you get some gorgeous birds up there!
