Cooking New Stuff

We cooked some new foods recently.  We seem to eat the same things in rotation..it was time to add something new.   Our daughter Jen is an adventurous cook and readily shares her successes with us.

Sloppy Joe Philly Cheese Steak

brown one pound of hamburger

add onion

1/2 cup of beef stock or broth

2 Tablespoons A1 Steak Sauce

Simmer till reduced, spoon onto buns and top with cheese..I threw them in the oven to melt the cheese..they were very good and we will make them again. We only used half of the hamburger mixture, I froze the rest so we will have a quick meal in the future. Next time I will use French bead and cut out some of the center to make a nest for the hamburger mixture..it will be less messy that way. I used Provolone Cheese..next time I will use Monterey Jack.

Far Guy is not a soup eater…but Jen made a soup that he liked.

Chicken Tortilla Soup.

I cooked up some chicken breasts until they were tender

Then add:

I can of Cream of Chicken Soup

I can of chicken broth

1 can of black beans

1 can corn

2 Tablespoons Taco seasoning ( I will reduce this amount next time)

1/2 can of green chilies

1 can of diced tomatoes..I didn’t have tomatoes so we added some salsa instead.

I did not like that soup..my stomach has compartments and corn and black beans would never ever go down together.

I make my own vegetable soup …now Far Guy can have his soup and I can have mine. We freeze individual servings. It is nice having stuff in the freezer that is easy to prepare when neither of us wants to cook, especially after I go back to work.

Next week I will make enough baked beans to last the summer..it is the last thing on my “what I need to cook before going back to work list.”

Here is the snow stick report.  It may rain tomorrow…it has to warm up to rain:)

I am not a meat eater but would make an exception to try that soup. I like both black beans and corn and wonder how they would taste together. :-)

I know the feeling, I get so sick of making the same stuff over and over and like to try new things. Win some, lose some!!!

The stick is leaning maybe that means Winter is losing her grip.

We hardly eat the same thing twice in one month....I kind of love food. So I will experiment and create new dishes when I have the time.

But ... it was mentioned sadly the other night that we haven't had Tuna casserole for dinner for ages..."oh really, how sad,[not]"

Good for you guys to experiment, we can all get into a rut occasionally...

That Taco soup sounds so good,

Jen

We are definitely in a food rut. Having a tooth pulled messed with the regular menus but I am almost back to normal food. My wife discovered a taco dish that she can bake that did give us a new item to eat. When the cupboard is bare it is always waffles or pancakes and eggs. I hope you do some more melting today. If we had a southern wind you will feel a mild warmth wind.

I also get caught in cooking ruts. They run very deep! But... I did get some inspiration at the grocery store and I'm actually looking forward to cooking! Yikes!
Mr. Dreamy isn't a soup eater, either. He has to cut something and chew it for it to count as food.
Have a great Sunday... I hope you get some sun to go along with the day.... and warm temperatures.... and rain to melt that snow!

Well, I hope it warms up for you when it rains. We've had small amounts of rain this week but it's usually plus 2 to 5. Not very warm.

I hope it warms up for you and the snow melts.

The sandwiches sound good but I would pass on the taco soup. I am not an adventurous cook. ;-)

The sandwiches sound good. I really need to get out of my rut with what I eat.
We are supposed to have rain or snow tomorrow. I hope it stays warm enough to rain.

Hey, there, Chance.....I am worried that Far Side has not seen my blog or comments on your blog about my awarding you two the Awesome Blogger Award. When you read this please tell her to let me know that she has noticed the honor......I just want to be sure you both know about it.

Thanks, and I love you, you gorgeous Dog Person.

We do the same around here...same things.....different week...especially at calving time. I do like to try different things though.....getting the Bossman to eat them is sometimes the challenge.

Yeah, that rotation diet thing gets to us, too. We tried something really different last night: Thai. Tasty. With hot spots.

Those recipes look great. And your freeze-in-individual-servings idea works wonders when you are too burned out to come home and cook creatively. I'm all for that!

Spring seems to have arrived over here at long last. I will have a word and tell it to come over and visit you.
