I found this old polaroid photo of Far Guy and his sister. It made me smile.
Mostly likely this was taken about 1960. Far Guy looks to be about 10 years old..his sister would have been 15. His sister looks all dressed up and ready to go someplace. Far Guy looks like he is staying home. The photo was taken in Far Guys room downstairs, his sister had her bedroom upstairs and when she went off to college he moved into her room.
They were showing off their collection of stuffed animals.. Far Guy says the tigers and the dog were his and the rest were probably his sisters..he knows for sure that the seal was hers. He said “The monkey was really neat it had a rubber face, ears, hands and feet.”
I bet that bedspread was chenille..and was most likely yellow. Far Guy remembers it as a wonderful warm covering that was yellow. There used to be so many beautiful designs in chenille bedspreads:)
Sweet :-)

I have a chenille spread on my wish list for summer time bed covering, I love them! I do believe that having stuffed animals as a girl was the precursor to piles of pillows that have to come off at night and get put back on each morning as an adult.
ReplyDeleteAnd those chenille bedspreads are real treasures now aren't they, I bet that soft yellow was lovely.

I loved chenille bedspreads too. One of my funny memories from "way back when" was the time I went to one of our extra nice department stores looking for a suit. I asked the sale person if they had any suits in the Chanel style. (I loved those jackets) She looked at me and said, "We don't carry any chenille."
ReplyDeleteI tried not to smile, turned and left. I wondered all the way down in the elevator if she thought I was looking for a suit made from a bedspread.
I like old photos as in this one it is so very much 1960's...clothes, furniture, haircuts...all 1960's
ReplyDeleteChenille used to be the only bedspread my mother would ever buy...I remember how it would get on my Dad's dress slacks so we could never lay his clothes out on the bed. :)
