It was my Dad’s birthday yesterday. He is 86 years old. I can always tell how old he is..just add 25 years to my age and I have his.
I was 2 years old in this photo in 1953 and Dad was 26 going to be 27. Our birthdays are just 3 weeks apart.
This photo was taken at the farm, I can see Dad’s car in the background and a hay wagon and a stack of hay.
My Mom’s birthday is later in the week. The celebrate their anniversary and their birthdays all in the same week.
October 15 1950
This is the top of their wedding cake.
I remember a pink box that was on the shelf in their closet for years. Mom waxed the top layer of the cake and kept it wrapped in tissue paper in the pink box. She also kept the rose petals from her bouquet..they were in the bottom of the garment bag that held her wedding dress.
This year we had pie for Dad’s birthday. It was my turn to have “Cousins.” Far Guy was not feeling up to having company in the house (he is getting better) so I called my girl cousins and we all met in town and had lunch together…Mom and Dad were our special guests. The waitress brought out a cookie with a candle and we all sang Happy Birthday!
Dad and his sister.. my Aunt Anna:)
With your interest in family history take every opportunity to ask you dad....
ReplyDeleteI regret now that I didn't do that as my interest in family history came just recently...:(
Glad to hear Far Guy is feeling better. I agree with troutbirder about talking about family history with parents and any other older person in your family. I am now the "official oldest" in my immediate family. I wish I had listened more carefully to the family stories. It is interesting that my sisters, brother and I have different versions of many of the stories, even some of those we were part of.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations with your dad's birthday and with your own and your mother's as well. There's a lot to celebrate and you're all lucky to still have each other. At least I'm assuming you do. xox
ReplyDeleteHe looks fantastic! And I am so glad to hear that Far Guy is finally beginning to feel a little better. Happy birthday to your dad, once again. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tradition. We used to have a 'cousin' get together for my dad's birthday on the Sunday prior to his Bday. We stopped doing it when he passed. Time has healed my pain, and I should start thinking about getting together again!!! Thanks for the wonderful reminder. I'm sure you had a great lunch with your cousins, and catching up on all the family stuff that happened through out the past year!! Happy Birthday to your mom and dad, and Happy Anniversary, too!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Far Guy is starting to feel better. Congratulations to your parents on their birthdays and to you as well; also Happy Anniversary to them. My in-laws were somewhat like that. My Mother-in-law had a birthday on May 13, my Father-in-law's was May 16 and their wedding anniversary was May 16. Get as much history as you can from them; that way it can be passed down.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and the old photos are such a great rememberance. The current one tho is the best. Your Dad looks like he had a great time. Glad to hear Far Guy is getting better.
