Trees and Things

The first tree to turn color in our area greets me every morning.  It stands sentinel along the road blushing with early fall color.  It will have turned color and shed its leaves and stand there naked under a carpet of dried up leaves when the rest of the trees in the area turn color.

According to my Cousin Chuckie it is a Buckeye.  We don’t have too many Buckeyes in this area.  I would like to collect some seed..but it is just off the right of way..and I do not know the people that live there. On the way to work

The light is too harsh in the morning for a photo so I waited until after work..I turned around at the Bean Plant and doubled back to grab a parking spot at a approach.  The traffic was too heavy and fast to venture across the road.

Pretty tree

This is a sure sign that Fall is on it’s way.  I think I have 27 more days of work..I am counting. I am tired. I have many projects to finish up before I close the doors for the winter.  One of these days I will have to make a list.  Some things will not get done..I am only one person.. and I can only do so much.  I refuse to bring work home with me during the summer, I put in an average of ten volunteer hours a month on top of the hours I work.

I have been working on scheduling the programs for next year, I have a pretty good line up of interesting programs.  I don’t like to think a year ahead but meeting rooms must be reserved and some of the advertising for the Summer of 2013 goes to the printer mid September.

I met a gentleman last week..who is an expert on the Early Minnesota Fur Trade..well he got added to my Fur Trade with Trapper Mark program that will end up being a permanent display at the museum.  Sometimes just the right person stops by and strikes up a conversation..I need a Grant Writer to do that real soon:)

Don't know that I've seen a buckeye tree before. I know you are counting down the day....good that you met the fur trade guy - very interesting.
Hugs to you, Far Guy and Chance.

It's too early! It's still August, last I checked. But the tree doesn't lie, it's coming right around the corner.

I love to see nature painting trees in preparation for fall. She uses my favorite colors!
I admire you for working so far ahead. That would be very difficult for me.

We have a few Maple trees here in S.E. WI that always change colors early. I feel it is too early but after the year we have had so far, anything is possible and nothing surprises me.

Yes - I love that tree... I have noticed it too but haven't had my camera with - it reminds me of the carmel apple suckers that you can buy!

Mmmmm. I've heard of them, as in Ohio Buckeyes, but never seen one except at a Gopher game...:)

I noticed my neighbor's Ash is beginning to show color, too. Oh yes, Fall is sneaking up on us.

This is certainly a different process where the leaves drop so early. sometimes early leaf turning indicates a tree under stress. Am I right?

Too bad I didn't know about your wanting some buckeye seeds. I was just there...in the Buckeye State, that is :)

Yes, I think I'm seeing signs of autumn here too. I know I'll regret it later, but I am looking forward to it.

A few of our maples are starting to turn around here too. Glad to hear your stint at the museum is winding down. On a side note, Granddaughter was at the Bemidji Fair Grounds to show her horse. I am seriously thinking about going next summer. Perhaps I will stop at your museum while I'm there.

yes early leaf drop usually signifies a tree under stress.. this Buckeye Tree does the same thing every August:)

It seems so early to see leaves changing! What a crazy year.

I am glad you only have less than a month left at the museum. Congrats on the right person arriving at the perfect time, too. ;)
