It is dry. Guyles Lake has dried up.
There is usually water beyond those Tamarack Trees.
Here is another photo I took of the same lake in June of 2009.
Ha! I even took it at about the same spot. One fluffy Tamarack towards the center of the photo and two possibly struggling/dead trees to the right of the one that is thriving.
I have passed by this lake for sixty years now. I have seen it dry.. but I have never seen the water totally disappear from the lake.
Even though it has rained some in the past few weeks I guess it wasn’t enough to raise the level in the lakes and the potholes.
This has been one of the warmest summers that I can remember in Minnesota. Day after day of heat and humidity. I hate to say it..but I am looking forward to fall and cooler temperatures.
I am getting tired of the “dog days “ of summer..typically July 3 to August 10. That old Dog Star Sirius must be to blame.
"These are strange and breathless days, the dog days, when people are led to do things they are sure to be sorry for after." From Tuck Everlasting.
I wonder if it is the “dog days” that make me cranky and more tired than usual. Far Guy says “No, we are just getting older.”:)
Both things are probably the reason, Connie. You ARE getting older (we all are) but it's so hard to be so hot day after day... The Pacific Northwest is getting its first really hot weekend, coming up.
I'd like to go with your dog theory. Though my Mayo consults keep bringing up that "getting old" myth.... :)
I think it is the weather and that we are just getting older. IT has been so very hot, humid and dry here in S.E. Wisconsin. I don't know if our lawns will recover or not. I am looking forward to Fall and the cooler temperatures and hopefully some rain. Have a great weekend.
I'm sure its the heat, it seems everyone I encounter has issues with something or another; over such minor stuff. Lots of shootings in the larger cities too. Gotta be the dog days and heat. I wonder if we'll experience an early fall. We have had more than our share of rain here. Some of the farmers plowed up the winter wheat, and planted corn this spring. And by the looks of things it will be to their advantage.
We had a bit of a break yesterday. It wasn't nearly as hot but on our drive to the "Hat" you could see the heat stressed grassland and crops. We need a rain and a cool down.
It is dry here to and our rivers and lakes are very low . I think we are to get a full day of rain on Sunday but one never knows ! August for us is the hottest month of the summer even though last month we broke heat wave records. Lovely photos . Have a good day !
I will admit to this long hot summer making me cranky.
It is so sad to see a lake dry up like that.
I love the two shots of the lake. How awful to be that dry. How awful to be that hot. I'm with you - the heat saps my energy.
I will have to say we've had some nice weather up in Idaho - only one day was really hot - the rest have flirted with it, but have stayed reasonable. I hope you get some relief.
I've been yearning for Fall's cooler days for over a month. I enjoy Summer, but not the intense heat day after day.
Think we're all crabby! Weather induced! see ya soon!
Connie I would blame it on the 'dog days of summer'. You know it isn't the age thing. I hate to see the lakes drying up. That is actually sad. I believe ya'll have had a summer even hotter than us. We have at least had rain to keep us a little cooler many days. Our highs are averaging low 90's and the lows in the mid 70's but when we have cloud cover the temps go down into the mid to low 80's which is nice for us down here. This has been a crazy weather year. We are keeping an eye on the Atlantic and the Gulf as there is a system our there which will be named Earnesto. Hope you have a nice weekend.
It has been one of the HOTTEST years here also...and we have humidity which is a rare thing indeed for this high mountain area. Miserable. This morning it was a tad cooler, when we got up to start the day...made me feel ALIVE. It's 94 with 80% humidity as I type...you know the rest of the story!
Love your post and your photos.
The heat, and getting older. ;o)
Been a long hot summer. Wonder if it will be another warm winter...
Hot dry weather is rather hard on the nerves. Yes, I know what it means to look forward to cooler fall weather.
Gosh - and over here we've had a pretty cool summer.
Hope you get some cool breezes and rain soon.
OMG...that's amazing! I thought we were bad but really it was everyone this Summer! In fact, I check the weather up North where I'm from and there were times when you guys were hotter than down here...that's just wrong!
Today is August 11th and I'll be dipped I was able to turn off the ac and open the windows! YES! Fall is my favorite season no matter where I am.
