You Who?

Euonymus alatus aka Burning Bush. (You on i mus) This is one of my favorite shrubs..mine is stuck over on the edge of the parking lot where it is really struggling. No extra water and competition from the woods is tough on it.

It did survive the summer..here it is all frosty one morning. This is a good photo that shows the stem with the tell tale corky looking wings.

I had the perfect opportunity present itself one day. To show you what different exposures do to this shrubs fall color. I found this very interesting and perhaps you will also.

Eastern Exposure..

Southern Exposure..

A few on the south were vibrant orange! None of them on the eastern side of the building were orange. Now I believe that these are all the same plants, planted at the same time. The soil conditions are pretty much the same and no doubt watering and fertilizing is similar. The only thing that is different is the amount of light they receive everyday. Landscapers usually don't get into many different varieties of plants...so I assume that these are the same exact plants on both sides of the building. I could have asked..but I doubt that anyone inside Perkins would have known or cared..they probably would have said You..who?

I have had a tough week this week, can you say "toothache from hell" .. I broke a tooth and got a huge very painful abscess..so I had the first part of a root canal..it took forever to open up the calcified canals. I am on antibiotics..and I am a tad cranky, and I stayed in my Jammies all day yesterday and took lots of naps..and I might just stay in my jammies all day today too. I didn't do well on the first antibiotics ( Clindamycin or the turquoise capsules that make your stomach feel like it is on fire) ..so the Pharmacist called the Dentist and together they came up with a substitute (Cephalexin). I feel much better than I did..I must be better by tomorrow because I am needed at a fundraiser. Chance and Far Guy are taking really good care of me..:)

It's okay to have two PJ days in a row, even three or four are permissible. Hope these antibiotics take care of the infection and you start feeling better soon.

OOOOHHH that tooth pain is awful - makes you feel sick all over. Hope those antibiotics get rid of the infection soon. You aught to stay in your jammies. I bet you are being well cared for. Chance is probably napping with you.

It is neat how the Burning Bush is different depending on which area is getting sun and the time.

So, I never have had the answer to this question in 20+ years of living in Colorado. The aspen grow mostly in clumps. (They are just kinda' weeds, you know. Growing from one hugh corm.) But you will see all the golden trees and then there will be one right in amongst the lot that is bright red. Or you will see one tree that at a certain time as all three colors in the same tree....green, yellow and red. I just don't get it! But, it's beautiful, no matter what!

I am sorry you are not feeling well. At this very moment my husband is at the doctor for the same problem and I know how awful he has been feeling. You are entitled to feel cranky. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you feel better.

I am glad you posted this about the bush. I have wondered about it for awhile. Our bush on the north turns flaming red and the one on the south is a dull flat color. I never could figure out why.

So sorry to hear about your pain Connie. I hope you will feel better soon and my thanks to Far Guy & Chance for taking good care of you.

We love the burning bushes too. We have them to reseed themselves everywhere and they are easy to relocate to places we'd like to have more!

I hope that antibiotic kicks in soon. A toothache is one of my biggest dreads.

Only thing as bad as a toothache is an earache. Aren't you glad you don't have both???
Get well soon.

You I on mus, that I can remember, but the real spelling I may never get. A tad bit cranky, I think I will be laying in a ball and moaning. That is so painful. I went in and had one removed, no canal possible, and I was willing to let them use dynamite to get that out of there. Take care of it and be as cranky as you want.

Sorry about your toothache. I had one like that once over Christmas holiday. Did you know the hospital can NOT help you in any way shape or form if the pain is in your mouth?

Did you know in RURAL communities there is no such thing as an emergency Dentist?

Did you know that if your regular Dentist is home, but it's Christmas you get to wait until after New Year's day?

After three days of HELL and a Christmas day I don't even remember to this day, we drove to another town to a Dentist that had emergency hours.

He is still my Dentist 5 years later.
