New Old Stuff: Shiny Brites and Lassie Books

IMG_9099

Jo brought me over a gift, she was thrift store shopping and thought of me. A few more Shiny Brites to add to my collection..I did not have any of this design in gold so they are just perfect!  Thanks Jo!

IMG_9091 I found a Lassie book..

IMG_9092 or two at a garage sale last summer.  They were a dollar each..and I couldn’t pass them up.

I am not sure what I will do with them..right now I just stuck them in a basket above the television.  Sometimes things are just fun to look at.

I really should stick with collecting marbles and dice, they are small and take up practically no space at all but they are hard to find.  At the Val Chatel sale if I had been one minute faster I would have had a jar full of dice and one of those big beautiful red ruby dice…but alas I stopped to look at the hundreds of rocks outside.  The stupid rocks anyway.  Far Guy saw the dice in their box.  He whispered to me  “Did you see that die?”  YES..and he could see the look in my eye and it was not the look a nice old lady should have, I followed that couple around hoping that they would decide against buying the dice..they were really old perhaps one of them would stumble and the box would fly out of their hands. Would I have grabbed that dice while it was flying in the air..yes..the question is would I have returned it to them or ran to the checkout?   I practically had to slap myself.. Far Guy finally offered the guy double what the die was marked..no sale. So perhaps I should just keep my goals in sight with my collecting and stop getting side tracked by cute little books that don’t take up much space and all the rest of those things that I just cannot pass up.  Do you suppose shopping for Antiques is an addiction?

When I get up in the morning..if I think of where we are going this week and how many Antique shops we will pass in our travels and how many will be just off the road a few miles..do you suppose that is a bad thing?  Is there a cure for this sickness or am I doomed?:)

  1. How great that Jo found these shiny brites for you - they are gorgeous! I also love the old Lassie books. I could sit for hours browsing through old books with pretty illustrations. Sad about the dice - old folks can be so hateful - darn that couple!!!!!

  8. Nothing looks like Christmas as much as those Shiny Brights, Connie. I think your addiction is a lot of fun, for me at least, who can just hit "delete" when there's too much of them! :-) (And that will take awhile.)

  12. As you can tell, I'm addicted to antique and thrift store shopping. Bad, as now I look for others as well as myself. But so much fun it is, and cheaper than paying full price for things!!!!!!!! Glad you like them!

  13. Love those old Lassie books..I'd have to read them if I came over. Remember the TV shows? I'd cry everytime and hide behind a pillow so my brother wouldn't tease me about crying.

  14. You are funny and have worked hard all your life so you get to do what you want in retirement! Plus you are "going green" by buying recycled rather than new. So keep telling us about your trendy tales. We love them!
(Perhaps if you had Chance with you, he could have accidentally brushed against the people with the dice, causing them to lose balance, and then you could still have had them. Maybe you could train him in the interim.)

  15. The first step is recognizing you have a problem...yep, sounds like an addiction to me! I love searching in antique stores too, but I don't have room for more stuff. Good thing it's still fun to just look.

  16. Ha Ha Haa...I think you are doomed, but you will love it to the end. That's my kind of "doomed"!! I wish I had time to stop in antique stores other than when on vacation, but I guess it keeps my spending and collecting down!

  17. I'm sorry, sorry... I just can't stop laughing... You are hilarious, still laughing... it was the line, "Do you suppose shopping for Antiques is an addiction?" Ya think?!
