June is gone in April

June is gone!

She left behind a rock and some dirt.

There is a hint of green in the grass now....or maybe it is my imagination.

Seems I have a speeding ticket in North Dakota and my license will be suspended unless I contact the appropriate authorities in the Philippines.  Who knew??  They are quite insistent with their text messages.

Why is it that everything you read on and off the internet/phone has to be suspicious of a rip off??

Minnesota weather:  High 64F or 18C  Low was 33F or 1C.

The Snowbank named June

I think that June may be gone in April this year.  We are supposed to get really warm weather this weekend.

Always fun to see June disappear!

Something missing was not found so we did the best we could and had a new key made.  It took three different visits to two different places of business to accomplish it....but now we can cross it off of our list and I can say with certainty that the missing keys will show up now.

Far Guy has been out to visit his old car Tilly in the garage and the next door neighbor/great niece Anna stopped by with Remmy. (Remmy is a pup that was rescued from a ditch nearby last Fall...someone threw her out the window) She grew over the Winter!

What's cooking: My other baby brother brought us over a couple of jars of venison soup that was really good so we didn't have to cook our first night back.   Yesterday we made Chicken Enchiladas before watching the big Hockey game...we lost so it was not a fun game to watch.

Minnesota Weather:  Sunny.  The breeze coming off the snow is chilly.  High 46F or 8C  Low was 30F or -1C eh!

June

June melted away in the rain on Saturday night or early Sunday.

My scoop shovel and rake are there waiting to clean up the last of June's debris.

The grass is starting to turn green.

In the distance you can see the area I mowed on Friday.

My eye is less irritated...more anesthetic and antibiotic ointment and I put the patch back on...another afternoon on the couch and it seems much better!

More smiles and June

Maddie sent photos of our Great Grands with their May Baskets!

Auntie Jen must have delivered them as I left them at her place when I had my dental work done.

BTW my stitches finally dissolved and are no longer driving me partially nuts!

June is still hanging around.

June is huge!

Our snowbank named June is enormous!

My other baby brother did a great job tending to June over the winter.  The snow in our yard and driveway has to go someplace and that place is June.

We ran errands in town.   Groceries and some misc stuff.  We napped in the afternoon.

Goodbye June!

The rain during the night took care of June.  I was beginning to think she would never melt!

Since no one guessed the correct date I will send something to the two people that were the closest.  That is Rita and bookworm (Alana).  bookworm I will need your address please send it to captainconnie2001atyahoodotcom  Rita I have your address!   Not sure what I am sending you yet but it will be something handmade.

We had a quiet Mother's Day with phone calls from my daughters.   Far Guy took me out for lupper...that is lunch and supper all rolled into one.  We went to a well known Mexican place and I had my first margarita for the summer.  It was a good day... I got to catch up on laundry and some paperwork that I let slide last week and I had a nap after the margarita.  My desk is almost cleared off.

In the yard/woods

June is still present in our yard.

She has melted a bit but has more to go.  Even the continual rain over the weekend didn't take care of her.

My other baby brother and she who sees robins first and I watched a doe laying down in the woods.  She gave birth but it was too early for the fawn to be born alive...most Does give birth in our area about June 1st give or take a few days either way.

The Doe was way in the woods and we did not leave the road. I used the zoom lens on my camera to take a photo.  Later on my other baby brother checked the area and yes the fawn was stillborn and way too little to survive...weighing about a pound or two.  So sad.   You never know what causes premature labor...could have been some nutritional need that had not been met...it was a long winter for deer too and as of yet there is no green grass to eat.   This is not the first stillborn fawn that has been on our property...a year ago there was a fawn that did not survive near one of our walking trails.

Still Winter

 A June update:

She is still in the yard....she did very little shrinking this week.  It has been unseasonably cold.

There were rain showers but no flowers yet.

Far Guy has begun woodcarving out in the woodshop/greenhouse on sunny days.  He did a prototype of an ornament for Christmas 2022.  It is pretty cute:)

Rain

We got some rain instead of snow and the sun came out for a bit toward evening.  We sat outside with my other baby brother and she who sees robins first.

In the afternoon we went for a Ranger Blue ride to recycle.

This is snow fog.  We had snow fog all morning, the snow melting in the rain made a fog.

June the snowbank is shrinking.  The rain helped her shrink.

You know what they say about April Showers they bring May Flowers...we shall see.

S words

Snow... we still have lots of it and more is on the way this week.  Something to look forward to.   Some of the forecasted snow totals are downright scary.

Swans, Canada Geese and Sandhill Cranes all sharing a water hole in a corn field.  There is hardly any snow 10 miles west of our house.

Steri Strips suck and my hand still hurts.  It doesn't burn as much as it did...but I still have to be careful.  Far Guy is stuck doing the dishes...so I cooked last night...ribs, baked potato and corn.

I can crochet for short periods of time, I am watching Bridgerton and enjoying it!  Far Guy and I are watching Better Call Saul at night....it is different.

June the Snowbank

My brothers are telling me that perhaps June should be called July or August.

June is mighty big this year.  It will be awhile before she is gone.    Care to guess what day she will be completely gone?   I will mail something to the US or Canada to the person who guesses the day June totally melts.   So guess a day if you wish.   I will keep a list of guesses here....you have until Monday night to enter a guess!

We had a busy day making a grocery list and meal plans.  Wally world was totally out of eggs.  My baby brother was in Costco and brought us some.  Oh and I also had a nap.  We are mostly settled in again.   My baby brother, his bride and Baxter visited late in the afternoon.  Poor Baxter had Kennel cough but he is feeling much better.  It must be a bad year for Kennel cough as Aurora (Noah's Dog) and Little Elvis both had it and have since recovered.

My Dad will be in the Nursing Facility getting stronger and doing physical therapy for the next few weeks, our hope is that he will get strong enough to go back home...we will see.   Dad is 95 years old, his UTI is all cleared up.  He is somewhat confused which is normal for an elderly person who has been moved from their home.   I will visit him soon.  My brothers one or the other has been there every day.

Melting

We have had a few warm days!  Sadly June the snowbank is almost gone in March.   We have so much less snow this year...but winter isn't over yet.  March can be a fickle month and so can old man winter. We have some mud in the yard and the puddles of water freeze every night making a bit of a skating rink.

There are still about five inches of snow at the snowstick.

Yesterday I had a busy day.  The Living Room is completely Spring cleaned...yeah me!   I was at loose ends and didn't know which direction to go to next so I headed to the kitchen to make Far Guy's favorite dip.( Italian Sausage, Hormel Chili with no beans, Philly Cream Cheese, Velveeta Cheese and Jalapeno Peppers. ) Then my other baby brother and she who sees robins first came by to sit in the sunshine out on the patio.  After that I worked on my mosaic crochet project and had a half hour nap...getting up just in time to help Far Guy cook supper...pulled pork quesadillas....the dip is perfect to go along with this meal.  It also freezes well.

My Covid Arm is finally better! I still have a sore spot but the temperature is gone along with the red spot!  Now it will have time to get all better before the next shot in 10 days.

June and Crown Report

June  the snowbank is as big as ever.  She is a record height....the tallest we have seen her in the 22 years we have lived here.

The weather yesterday was lovely.  Above zero!  I finished my shoveling and no snow is forecast so I am ahead of the game!  Yeah me!

Stacey came by to get her crown ear warmer.  She liked it!

I had time to make her another one...in the color she originally requested.
They both look good on her! Either color makes her eyes pop!

Yesterday I watched The 100-Foot Journey a movie much more to my liking.  I give it a 8 out of 10 stars.

Piled high and deeper

It snowed again ...we got about 5 inches of the white stuff.  I shoveled and power shoveled again.  My Nephew Josh came by with the skidsteer today and moved more snow.

The snowbank named June is getting larger.

We have 21 inches at the snowstick now.

The snow is piled up on the roofs. This is the snow curl on the west side of the house. It will eventually come down and then we won't be able to see out the window!

After shoveling I worked upstairs on the big sort.  I sure am finding some interesting "stuff."

We are plunging into the deep freeze again today. Wind chills will be horrible. We probably won't get above zero today.  We have to go out for appointments for Far Guy and the vehicle needs an oil change and tires rotated....so I will handle that while Far Guy entertains all the Nurses that he sees several times a week.  After a quick stop for a few groceries we will come back home and hunker down for the storm that is supposed to arrive on Friday.

Enough snow already

Snow.  It snowed all day on Friday.  What a mess and that snow was some heavy crap.  I used the power shovel and the regular shovel...thank goodness my Nephew came by with the skidsteer and moved a bunch of snow off of the walk for me.
It was about nine plus inches of snow.   It was so heavy that as it piled up it sunk shank shrinked...got smaller in height..

June the snowbank has been renewed also.

Far Guy woodcarved.  I made jelly...got another 5 jars of Chokecherry and 5 jars of SKOC Some Kind Of Cherry

The SKOC is beautiful in the jars...and tastes good too.

I have three quart jars of rhubarb to do yet...I am thinking one batch of jam, some muffins and possibly a coffee cake are in our future.  I will be glad when this project is complete.

Far Guy's sister asked what will you do with so much jam and jelly.  Give most of it away most likely....it makes sweet gifts!

Saturday happenings

It was a beautiful day here in Minnesota.  It was 40 something above zero!!

We sat outside, fed the birds and chipped away at some ice at the woodshop.

My other baby brother has been building a new shop and office so we went to visit.  We could have walked but it is just too muddy.

Far Guy made a trip around the perimeter ...it is 100 steps.  The shop is so light and bright!  It is going to be a great place for my other baby brothers business. It is one tall building!  I told my other baby brother he should have built a deck on top and we would have a view of the lake...he said "No I was up there one day...and could only see the trees on either side of the lake."

The office is really nice too, they are just moving into the office.  They have lots of organizing to do.
They have a kitchen area in the office...and work space for three people...and a bathroom.  Pretty snazzy!

June the snowbank is melting....slowly.

Rain

I got home just before the rain started.  Now the yard is like a skating rink.

June March 13

June the snowbank is losing some of her tallness.  Snow on top of the icy yard will make for some tricky footing. I have Yak Trax and I use them.

The snowstick registers 21 inches March 13.

snow sliding off the roof

Just before dark I went outside to take some photos of the snow on the roof…hopefully the rest of it will slide off in the rain.  We will breathe a sigh of relief when the snow is gone from all our buildings….there have been some scary roof collapses in the area.

Rain is appropriate for our dismal mood.

My Tall Friend who I mentioned yesterday died early Wednesday morning. His daughters and ex wife are all very sad.  You have to give kudos to the ex wife, she gave him emotional and physical support the past few months. They may not have been married but they were still friends.

We also learned of another death. Boner died…he was a fixture around town, always happy to see who ever he met.  Recently the town council passed some kind of stupid law concerning the Golf Cart that he drove around town. He used to park it on Main Street and at the grocery store….get real people.  His Mom Gladys used to own the small gift shop next to the theater, Boner took it over after she died….he ran it sucessfully for a number of years.  Recently I noticed a street sign near his house it read “Elvis Presley Blvd”  …now that made me smile.

Far Guy’s only living Uncle is struggling with heart problems….he is home and maybe his wish that he shared with me will be fulfilled.  He said “I would like to die at the farm, they can carry me out feet first.”

Life is a journey full of a little rain, a little snow, illness, death,  sad feelings…but eventually spring will come…the sun will shine and flowers will grow.

June

Our nephew was by and took care of the majority of the new snow.  I think we got about 7 inches overnight.   Then it kept snowing….and I took a nap so who really knows for sure.  It is plenty of fill your boots kinda snow.

June is growing.  June is the name we gave the snowbank  in our yard.

June

The Grands have carved snow tunnels through June and played King of the Hill there with Chance.  June always disappears before June…but we still like to call her that.

I moved snow off the patio and the walk, and shoveled in front of one of the garages…and fed the birds.   I did not go to Bingo…the wind chill is very cold.

June the snowbank is gone

June was hanging in there on our 185th day of winter.

JUne April 29

June on April 29

On the 186th day of winter June melted.  It rained during the night and she shrunk, at noon she was still there but at 4PM she was gone. It was 76F or 24C eh!  I hope it wasn’t our one day of summer.

June disappeared on April 30

So we have some winners!

Saturday

We had a busy day.

Waited in line for 2 hours to get Chance his vaccinations…he is good for another year.  He will be 14 this Fall.

June April 28

He is doing his best to contribute to June’s shrinkage. He likes having a snowbank to crunch snow from. Another day or two and June should be history...will she make it to May?  Only time will tell.

I had a long nap.  I still have pain…it is exhausting.  Far Guy did a whole bunch of stuff in the yard…he has lots of energy for an old guy.  He is still cooking…I had ice cream for lunch.
