More snow

We had a quiet day on Wednesday, I cleaned the bathroom and caught up with laundry.

It snowed.

I guess we got about five inches of heavy wet snow.

It will be melted in a few days...the sun and warmer temperatures will take care of it.

We had soft tacos and raspberries for supper.  Far Guy cooked.

Snow

Yes it snowed, it was not an April Fools joke.

Before we left.

After.

It was not a fun trip thats for sure.  It kept on snowing after we got home.  We have more snow now.

The roads were mainly wet and the temperature hovered between 31 F and 33 F.

We are still in a Winter Storm until late Wednesday or early Thursday.  They say we may get up to 10 inches of snow...we will see.  We are happy to be at home safely.

April Fools Snow

A number of years ago we had 18 inches of snow on April 1st...how do I recall??  It is Great Nephew Mason's birthday and we walked over to help celebrate his birthday because the snow was too deep to drive in.  Mason was maybe 6 or 7 years old back then...today he is 20...hardly seems possible!   Happy Birthday Mason!

We are supposed to be getting a Winter storm beginning Tuesday afternoon going all the way into Thursday.  We have to travel on Tuesday so hopefully that is all said and done before the storm begins.

My Dad's car in the snow a long time ago.

Perhaps Old Man Winter wants one last reminder of Winter before he yields to Spring. We can always hope.

We had a salad for supper...with some baked chicken and raspberries.

sNOw

Oh yes it snowed on Friday morning, off and on all day, huge honking snowflakes in the air, mostly it melted, then it snowed again overnight on Friday night/Saturday morning.

Even Ranger Blue had snow.

Saturday was a quiet day, we went to recycle and to the transfer station with garbage.  We were both tired so we had long afternoon naps after putting ribs in the crockpot.

We use our oven sparingly after the idiot repairman didn't know his butt from a hole in the ground.  The cooling circulating fan inside the oven worked just fine until he repaired the oven ($400), the next time he came back two months later he said it didn't need to work.  Jenn-Air says "The cooling fan runs to help keep the range itself and its critical parts from overheating. The cooling fan is often sold as an assembly. If the fan does not turn freely or has power to it but won't run, it will need to be replaced."

I ordered a new stove after much research. It is not here yet. Our stove is 26 years old...so it is probably time.  The stove top works perfectly.

Such is life at our home.

Snow Day

It snowed, by the time we went to town for Far Guy's infusion the roads were okay,  he dropped me off at my parents.  I walked Dad down the hallways, he needs to keep up with physical activity.   He was doing pretty good.

We ran a few errands in town.  Dropped off some old medications at the Sheriffs office and went by the grocery store to get some fresh fruit.   On the way home the roads were wet and there were some snow tornados out on the fields when the wind came up.

Good afternoon for a nap!

I pulled the remaining stitch that was in my thumb.  It looks much better now and feels somewhat better too.

I felt like I should turn in my services to an Insurance Company for reimbursement.  My thumb doesn't like doing certain things...pushing or gripping movements...it all takes time.  I told Far Guy that he was most likely in charge of wood carving the Christmas ornaments this year....we will see.  At the end of a day my thumb protests all the movements during the day...

June

Twas a dreary day here in Minnesota.  Today is Tax Day and Good Friday all rolled into one.   Half the month is gone and it seems more like March than April.

Start of another week

We have a few things on the list this week.   Snow.  Putting the bed upstairs together, searching for a couple of "lost items"...you know the kind you put  "away" so well you cannot locate them.  Taking naps are high on the list this snowy week.

I made the menus for the next two weeks...when we lived with the kids they do suppers day by day...Jen is a moody eater she never knows what she wants to eat days ahead of time.  Heck I could do menus for a month...but two weeks at a time works well for us...of course it is not written in stone we can change ideas if we want to.

Those worthless steri strips lasted about 48 hours on my hand...So I put some more on.

My parents are moving into Assisted Living this week if all goes well and my Dad is released from the Nursing Home.

Far Guy's sister is confined to bed now, she says her legs weigh a ton and she cannot move them anymore.   Far Guy calls her every evening. So sad to see her go downhill little by little.

S words

Snow... we still have lots of it and more is on the way this week.  Something to look forward to.   Some of the forecasted snow totals are downright scary.

Swans, Canada Geese and Sandhill Cranes all sharing a water hole in a corn field.  There is hardly any snow 10 miles west of our house.

Steri Strips suck and my hand still hurts.  It doesn't burn as much as it did...but I still have to be careful.  Far Guy is stuck doing the dishes...so I cooked last night...ribs, baked potato and corn.

I can crochet for short periods of time, I am watching Bridgerton and enjoying it!  Far Guy and I are watching Better Call Saul at night....it is different.

sNOw

Yes we got more snow and it is still snowing.  We made it to Far Guy's Doctors appointment.  He most likely has Pleurisy...which is inflamed tissue between the lungs and the chest wall.  Ice and large doses of Ibuprofen should help it resolve...if not they will do some scans next week.

I had lab work done and all blood tests are just perfect....much like me.

My baby brother and I picked up Mom and went to see Dad in the afternoon...Dad wanted to go home with us.  He is walking just fine with his walker.  He was confused.  There is a Care Conference scheduled  that my brothers will attend.

Many readers asked about our new bed... The bed we have is a Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress called Lacey on an adjustable base.  With the remote control you can have many settings for the head and feet...I like a bit of the head up and the feet up for an almost zero gravity experience...like sleeping on a cloud which prevents pressure on your back and increases circulation!  The best thing I can tell people looking for a new mattress is to take an afternoon and try out many beds...your body will tell you what is right for you.  There are all kinds of mattresses out there.

April say it isn't SNOW

Yes it snowed yesterday, about 6 plus inches then it snowed some more then rained and snowed again.  The weather is so mixed up it doesn't know what it is doing.

The Oxygen Driver got stuck in the driveway so I got out Ranger Blue and gave him and the oxygen supplies a lift...he had to shovel to get himself un stuck.

I shoveled the walk...that was enough for my bum thumb.

I sorted through a bunch of clothing in the bedroom.  My baby brother, his bride and Baxter visited in the afternoon....they were out for a ride.  We had a nap and I stared watching the second season of Bridgerton.

Today Far Guy has a Doctors appointment and If I skip breakfast I can have my lab work done at the same time.  We will have to see how much it snowed during the night.

The new bed is the best thing...like sleeping on a cloud.  I slept straight through for 6 1/2 hours...that is a long sleep for me.

Sunday happenings

I visited my Dad in the Nursing Facility.  It is NOT big and beautiful and brand new.  It is an old solid building but the rooms and hallways are clean.  Dad had gotten up in the middle of the night looking for my Mom and he fell.  He said "They shoved me back in bed."  He couldn't come up with my name but he knew I had been gone for several months and that I was the oldest daughter...so he was having a good day. I think he is hungry there ...of course the food is not like at home plus he has Celiac disease so he must have gluten free food.  I took a banana and a gluten free Raspberry bar....both things that he has at home nearly everyday.  It was a good morning snack for him.   He will begin physical therapy this week.  He told me that he got weak when Mom wouldn't let him go outside to shovel snow.

A lady kept trying to escape the building so nursing staff was on high alert.  I am certain I might be that lady someday.

I ran some errands in town on my way home, bought some chicken to freeze up.  We purchased a Food Saver System over the winter so we can suck the air out of bags of food and have less freezer burn.  Gas is stable here at $3.89 per gallon.

Once I got back home we went for a Ranger Blue ride.

Baxter went with us for a ride.

The creek on Joe and Vi's road is running pretty good.  This is the first place in early spring that has Cowslips or Marsh Marigolds or Caltha palustris. Probably just wishful thinking that we would see them pushing up out of the ground when there is snow.

Speaking of snow there was snow in the air on Sunday afternoon and evening.

Snow again

Winter wants more time with us!

The huge icy wet flakes fell for quite some time late in the afternoon...it rained first and then it changed over to snow.   I took the photo just before supper.

We had a quiet day...church via the computer in the morning and the rest of the day was uneventful other than a Facetime call from our youngest daughter Jen...we got to see Adam's cat, Noah and his dog...and Little Elvis. All are doing well!

The wild flower area in the distance really needs to be mowed...I had hoped to do that on a warm dry day.  Maybe when Spring gets here as sooner or later she must push old man Winter out the door.

Snow and Prom

 It snowed early Saturday morning.

Just enough snow to cover the grass...it quickly melted but it was still a cool day.

I attended the virtual baby shower in the afternoon, it was fun to see my nephew and his wife.  We played some games...Name the Disney parents, Name that baby song, guess who and guess the price. There were people attending from all over the United States.

Then we got company.  It is Prom!

My other baby brothers grand...or our Great Niece Hailey and her beau.  Her dress even had pockets!  She was just beautiful!

April Snow

It snowed.  About 2 inches of the white stuff fell.   Why is it that the snow in November and December seems so pretty and April snow lacks all beauty? We have had snow birds (Juncos) in our yard for days  foretelling of the snow that was coming....and my arthritis said it was coming also.

We had yesterday morning off and then in the afternoon we both had Dental Appointments.   Look Ma No Cavities!   We are good to go for six months...it was 13 months since we had a Dental visit.   The Dentist and his hygienist are married and are long time friends of ours...so we got in a good visit too....it has been a hard year for them...a death in their family, the dentist was in a bad accident and had to have a number of surgeries...and of course Covid and all that entailed for their business.

One good thing about a visit to the Dentist is the bakery that is next door and the Cracked Wheat Flatbread they sell.

Baxter (my brothers dog) and Annie (my sisters dog) were here in the morning so I got a dog fix...they had a blast running through the fresh snow.   Baxter herds Boston Terrier Annie...it gives him a job.

I did not shovel, Far Guy said "let it melt" so I did.

Fresh Snow

It started to snow about noon on Thursday.  On our way home from our appointments we noticed more and more snow.

I took a photo of the patio.

Before the snow and after the snow.

We had 4 inches of snow at the snowstick just before dark.  So the snowstick contest will begin again.
The snow storm is not finished with us.  It has been real windy.  Many of the roads are closed to travel, they are icy and dangerous.

I just finished raking the front yard one day this week...all twigs and spent bird seed was hauled away and I cleaned out the bird bath and put in fresh water for the birds. Then the Juncos came about 24 hours before it snowed.

We hunkered down at home...watching Frozen Four Hockey Playoffs. Far Guy worked on a woodcarving...I worked on a variety of things; nests, cards, scrubbies and old photos.  One afternoon this week I watched The Highwaymen...excellent movie except some of it was filmed so dark it was hard to tell what was happening.  I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.  It was based on a true story.

We have no place to go on Friday so we will stay hunkered down until the snow ends.

April Snow

Minnesota weather can change just like that.

We had a very nice but windy day on Saturday.

snowy day (2)

Sunday morning Winter reared it’s ugly head.  Perhaps it didn’t get the memo from Spring.

IMG_0501

I am certain it is all my fault.  Note my trusty red snow shovel is propped up against Far Guy’s garage.

Later in the day most of the snow melted.

Snow Again

It snowed again, I was just thrilled. Old Man Winter is baaaack, and it was no Aprils Fools Joke either. I am reverting back to my cheerful frozen mood..Far Guy is so happy. No fooling..Chance and I were awakened in the middle of the night when the snow rumbled and fell off of the roof. Far Guy just snored away. Chance was concerned, I was fully awakened by his concern..in the form of of his big old nose..
"NO, I DO NOT need to go out with you and check it out." It sounds worse than it actually is, the tin roof amplifies the sound indoors. "GO back to sleep."

This is what the roof looked like in the morning..half snowy..half had fallen off.

When the snow piles up and starts to slide, it forms curls. It only curls so far and then..WOOSH..it comes off in huge sheets..kinda like a huge snow bomb.. this is a curl on Far Guys garage.

Since there is safety in numbers..we all go outside together, Far Guy to fix the fire in the Outdoor Wood Stove. Chance to keep watch..and me to take more glorious snow photos. Luckily I grabbed a pair of socks and hiked them up over my pants legs..cause I did get snow in my boots..that tells me we got about ten to twelve inches of the beautiful white crap.

We played a game..called Chance Come! I am near the house in a snowbank, relaxing, as much as you can relax with your boots filling with snow, and Far Guy is by the wood stove..we take turns calling "Chance Come" ..back and forth he runs..burning off all his pent up energy:)
