Book Club 2025: January

This month we read Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann.

I gave the book a 8.5 out of a 10.   It is a non fiction book based on facts.  The subject matter should have been in a High School United States History Class...but I do not recall that it was.

Most of the gals in book club appreciated the book...not enjoyed...because the subject matter was a tad gruesome at times.

The yarn in the photo is very dark...a new project I am working on...actually I am working on two different crochet patterns for the same thing and we will see how it all turns out.

  1. The yarn looks beautiful and rich colored.
For the book? It sounds like something that should be taught not only in history classes but others. How awful people treat each other when riches are involved. :(

  2. I thought the movie was outstanding. I listen to books more than read them these days.

  3. Siggie said it’s sort of depressing. I may not be able to read it.

  5. I started reading this book a few months ago and couldn't, not at the time. I was already a bit gloomy and couldn't handle it. I may try again. And no, this was not taught in High School.

  6. David Grann is one of my favorite authors these days. His writing is such a joy to read and I feel more like I am reading a fiction book than a book on actual history. "The Wager" and " The White Darkness" are both outstandingly written books.

  7. I've heard of the book, but never read it. There is a movie based on the book too.
    Have fun with your projects!

  8. I've read it....I think it's a 7. Very dark and sad. And being true is worse

  9. I haven't heard of the book or movie but I think Dennis might appreciate reading it. He likes non-fiction much better than fiction. I don't even know what it's about but I could make a guess.
I like the yarn you're using. I made Dennis a blanket out of burgandy and grey to match the truck we had when we went to Spokane. He kept it in the backseat in case of storms. When we moved, we found it was the college colors so he was right in with the guys there! :-) It's still in his truck today. I probably made it out of Red Heart yarn 35 years ago and it's indestructable. Ha!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  10. The movie was really dark, too, but something people should know about. We didn't learn enough about the true scope of our history as a country in school when I was growing up and it sounds like they plan to have the kids learn even less and even alternate history. *sigh*

  12. I saw the movie when it came out. As discover more of the truth about our nation's history, much of it is disturbing.

  13. The book and movie both sound depressing, all the more so since it's based on real life.
Your yarn project sounds interesting. No doubt you'll have it done soon.

  14. I felt the same about that book - appreciated learning about what happened there, but didn’t enjoy the book. And i had no interest in seeing the movie. I sure hope the new treatments can give you some relief.
