Tamarack

The far tree is Larix laricina also known as Tamarack or Larch.

Their needles turn from green to a faded green to bright gold this time of year.  Then the needles fall off.  Tamarack is a deciduous conifer.

Most certainly a interesting tree...that will never be cut down for a Christmas tree.

Not much new here...Far Guy turned all the clocks back and changed the batteries in the smoke detectors.  We need a new CO2 detector as it would not stop chirping when he changed the batteries...they are only good for a few years.

  1. It is funny as I didn't notice Tamaracks until a few years ago. I don't even know why! They are pretty neat trees.
I love their November golden glow!

  3. Good morning...This tree is beautiful. We do not have these in our area, but I did ask Sam if he had heard of it before...( he has..I thought he probably had, since we are in the Tree Nursery Business). I had not heard of these before. It must be neat watching the needles change colors and reaching this golden color. Those little beeps can sure drive you crazy until the batteries or device gets changed out. I really do not do good with the time change...I prefer late evening light and now it gets dark at 5:00-5:30.. argh..

  4. Usually they are good for ten years before that happens.

  6. That is a tree I have neither heard of or seen. I would like to see one. We need a new CO2 detector, also.

  9. The colour of the tamarack/larch is incredible. So glad, I don't have to turn my clocks one way or another...I would be so confused.
