Far Guy missed taking Tilly to the car show so we went on a date night instead. The wildfire smoke is mostly cleared out...some still remains.
Can you guess where we went? Hint: they have car hops.
After supper we had a nice visit with Far Guy's cousins at their lake place.
Far Side
** If you guessed A & W you are correct.
I miss having an A & W here. It was my favorite place to go for lunch once in a while when I worked in town.
ReplyDeleteThey tore the place down and put up an ugly squat bank building.
I love this photo. If I could turn on the radio, what would I hear???
I guessed Sonic? LOL! Karen
ReplyDeleteThey still have car hops at your A&W? The last one here shut down 20, maybe 30 years ago. What fun!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the smoke is clearing up.
Your date night sounds so 'romantic', eating in the car, carhops bringing your food, I can just picture it. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know there were any A & W's still in business. Used to be one in my neighborhood, but they'be been gone for over 30 years. Always loved going there and now I want a rootbeer float.
ReplyDeleteThe only place in Laramie with car hops is the Sonic. I have wonderful memories of going to eat at A & W and the Dash-in when I was younger. We’d often stop for a soft serve, twist cone on the way home.
ReplyDeleteSonic! We went there last night also :)
ReplyDeleteOOPS I didn't read far enough :)
ReplyDeleteVal, First you have to wait for the radio to warm up, then you hear static and then a station or two:)
ReplyDeleteOur A&W shut down in the early 1980s. I sure miss that place. A company tore down that whole area and put in a bank and real estate offices. The Long John Silver's on that same block tried to bring back A&W as part of their restaurant, but, 1. they can't get enough GOOD employees to stay, and 2. their food is really bad nowadays. I think they're about to go under. I knew I recognised those signs, but the color threw me off. Been a long time.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have an A & W, but we do have two date spots, one to the west of us and one to the south of us: "Hound Dog Hop" and "Woody's Rootbeer" that feature carhops. So fun. What a great date night.
ReplyDeleteOh, A&W....yum! They don't have those down here. We have Sonic which is good.
ReplyDeletePerfect! An A&W drive-in!
ReplyDeleteI just found you blog and enjoyed it. Glad you had a great Date Night and didn't know they still have car hops. How awesome!
ReplyDeleteI immediately think of root beer floats! :)
ReplyDeleteYour A & W still has car hops? Who knew!!
ReplyDeleteWe have Sonic here but no A & W's. We used to go to the A & W in Chamberlain, SD every year when we went to the Black Hills and Yellowstone on vacation. It was a tradition the kids really looked forward to. Now it's a drive thru bank. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Ha! A & W was my guess! I still love that place! I used to always get a big frosty mug of root beer and a Teen Burger! Do they still have those? Glad you guys had a good day!
ReplyDeletediane in northern wis, I did not see a teen burger but I saw a Papa Burger on the menu:)
ReplyDeleteThe smoke was really bad in my valley for most of today. It smelled like burning tar or tires this morning.
ReplyDeleteOur A&W is just in the mall food court now. They were scheduled to build a drive through before Covid hit, but it doesn't appear that ever got off the ground.
My oldest brother met his girl at the A and W. He has been married to her over 55 years now.
ReplyDeleteI so wish we still had an A&W!
ReplyDeleteI saw Tilly that evening turning down Co Rd 6 - she looks really sharp! We missed the car show this month too (we had too much going on and have to arrange to leave work early too). See you soon!
ReplyDeleteWe used to have the Parkette Drive In, but it finally succumbed to "progress" a few years ago :-(.
