The Grandstand at the Hubbard County Fairgrounds has changed over the years. The old one was made completely out of wood. You could see black spots in the floor boards where not quite extinguished cigarettes were left to burn…it is a wonder it did not burn down. The seats were worn wood planks showing names of kids and young lovers from many a year.
This old photo of a Baseball Team about 1966 or 1967 shows the back side of the grandstand. The ball diamond was right in front of the grandstand, the old football field was off in the distance with its own bleachers.
In May of 2011 there was a bad storm with high winds/ tornado. The old grandstand what was left of it was declared unsafe. ( It was called The Memorial Day Storm.)
Goodness, those boys would be about our age now, probably watching their grandsons play ball.
ReplyDeleteHow time flies. That grandstand is fine to look at. Sorry to learn it's not there any more. I wonder how many of those guys are still around. :-)
ReplyDeleteSadly some of the historical buildings are left unrenovated and are destroyed in storms.
ReplyDeleteSeems like all the outdoor bleachers were wood back then...and that everybody smoked--LOL! I was wondering, too, how many of those guys are still with us today.

That's too bad and it is amazing with all the smokers back then that it didn't burn down at some point. '67 doesn't see that long ago....I must be getting senile! LOL!
