I feel so fortunate that my Dad came home from Iwo Jima. I would not exist if he had not. In 1910 Eric’s Great Great Grandfather was in Pierce, N D. The census said he was farming. In 1937, he and his wife were killed in an auto accident. It was caused by icy roads. Eric was born in Fargo.

My dad and 3 of his 5 brothers all served in WWII. I can only imagine how worried my grandparents must have been. They all returned home safely. Dad was a paratrooper and dropped behind enemy lines. He sure never had much to say about the war, which tells us a lot.
Today I'm going with 3 other ladies to present 3 Quilts of Valor. One of the veterans is a WWII vet - 99 years old. He was a POW and received the bronze star according to the nomination paperwork. I'm humbled to be a part of it.
My condolences to your family - Your uncle and those like him were the ultimate HEROES that had to lay down their lives. I come from a long line of military men that fought in wars. My dad's cousin died at Iwo Jima.
Thank you for appreciating what our military has given and continues to give. Let us never take it for granted.
Good friends we've known at church since before we were married told us yesterday that just this week the remains of his uncle were identifed by the government. He was a POW in the Korean War. Over 70 years ago since they heard the knews. Ted was overjoyed.His Uncle was just 3 years older them him and they were raised almost as siblings. He was notified that the remains will come to him as the oldest remaining member of his family. He wants to bury him next to his parents, Ted's Aunt and Uncle. I think that is a worthy goal. And to find out just before Memorial Day makes it extra special. Blessings, Betsy
It seems like a long time ago but it was such a real loss to family members at the time. I remember seeing the photos of the step cousin that is buried over there. His parents never really recovered from that loss.
