Book Club: October reads

 Book Club is today.

The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin is the book we are discussing.    I gave it a 9...it was an enjoyable read however it was most likely a "formula" book. The author picked many small survival items that came in really handy in this romance/disaster novel.  The editing was poor...get real...suddenly he has his car keys and charge cards.  I just didn't buy that.  I guess it has been made into a movie.

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is not a book club read...it was a bonus book that I have wanted to read all summer and I finally found the time...it is a page turner and is based loosely on true incidents.  I give it a 10...although the author could have tied up all the loose ends...

What are you reading?

I only read non-fiction these days so I'm reading Dead In the Water by Mathew Campbell about the ship Brilliante that was said to have been attached by pirates and during the subsequent investigation, an insurance investigator was murdered by a car bomb.

Before that it was Erik Larson's The Devil In the White City about the building of the Chicago World's Fair and one of our nations most prolific serial killers.

My Book Club is reading A Turn in the Road by Debbie Macomber. We considered Before We Were Yours and may read it sometime in the future.
Have a blessed day!

I’m reading Under a Sky of Memories, a WWII Kindle freebie with Amazon Prime last month. Haven’t read enough to know if I would recommend it yet or not.

Sadly, I haven't been reading much but there are a stack of books beside my nightstand that need to be tackled. Once I've finished a few more scarfs, toques and mitts, and the World Series is finished I'd likely turn to them.

I have read Before We Were Yours. I agree about it. I'm currently reading Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. A movie has been made of it. It's pretty good but I am getting weary of the indecisive woman thing. The next that just became available is I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. I has had good reviews and it's not a long read.

I have that second book downloaded but haven't started it yet. I'm still on a mystery kick, and lately I've read mostly "cozy mysteries". They tend to be quick reads, and not too gruesome or complicated. I did read Ali Wentworth's new book recently - also a good read.

I'm currently reading "Glenshee: Glen of the Fairies" by Antony Mackenzie Smith. It is non-fiction, dealing with his memories of a particular Scottish glen. I only read a little bit each day :)

I'm listening to West With Giraffes and really enjoying it. I reread all the Julie of the Wolves stories recently and was happy to find they really were as good as I'd remembered from childhood :-).

I enjoyed "Before We Were Yours" very much.
I am doing lazy reading, a 17 book series of the Anna Pigeon Mysteries by Nevada Barr. Each one is set in a different National Park.

We are seeing more mystery shows that just jump to a solution that really could not have happened. I would say where did that come from when it definitely was not around before. I am glad you had one good book to read.

Before we were Yours looks very familiar. I may have read it. I just finished 2 books by Wm. Kent Kreuger, Desolation Mountain and Manitou Canyon. Both mysteries with the same cop as main character. I have another of this author's books requested at our library. I also read Quintland Sisters by Shelley Wood. Based on the Dionne Quintuplets but fictionalized. I read it but wasn't impressed.

I am just finishing Desmond Birch's book "Trial, Tribulation and Triumph" ... before, during and after the Anti-Christ. Excellent book.

Lessons in Chemistry is a fun book, not about actual chemistry! I also enjoyed The Woman in the Library, a mystery.

West with Giraffes, a novel based on a true story about 2 giraffes being driven from NY to San Diego Zoo. A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler... and Pride of the Bimbos, by John Sayles. To avoid messing up library books, I also am reading Barbara Kingsolver's book "Pigs in Heaven" when I eat my evening snack.
