Just Peachy

 We spent most of the morning in the kitchen taking care of peaches.  We had an assembly line going.  Far Guy scored the bottom of the peaches and put the peaches in boiling water for about 30 seconds then he plunged them into an ice bath and the skin came off pretty good...better than peeling.  I sliced the peaches and put a bit of sugar and fruit fresh on them and vacuum sealed the bags. 


We have about 30 bags.  And every surface of the kitchen was sticky!  After the massive clean up I took a very long nap. 

Supper was "summer food"  sweet corn, tomatoes, a pork burger and peaches.

When you say you vaccum seal the bags, do you mean you put them in bags & then seal with the machine you use for the meat or do you have something that seals a bag?

Oh I love the smell of peaches, and of course the taste. It is the taste of summer. Your work will pay off so nicely during the fall and winter with peach crisp for one.

Sallysmom, We use the same machine Food Saver for meat, cheese and fruit etc. With fruit you stop the machine before the fruit is crushed. :)

We do the peaches every year but not this one. I think we're finished doing peaches.

Your peaches will be wonderful on cold winter days, a taste of summer.
We are eating summer food too, lots of summer fruits and vegetables. So good.

I haven't had a peach for a long time. They always seemed too tart. It's difficult to find a good one in a grocery store. You will appreciate your efforts in the future.

I've never used a vacuum sealer before but that looks like a great way to preserve. Do you have any trouble with freezer burn of the meat, veggies, fruit? Wondering if this would be a better way to prepare items for the freezer.

That's a lot of yummy looking peaches. Unfortunately the whole process of doing them up is a sticky mess but well worth the trouble.

Anonymous I have had no freezer burn using the vacuum sealer.

Those look so delicious! I love my Food Saver Vacuum Sealer for plastic bags, too. It does a fabulous job with freshness.

My mom used o Can peaches. IT was an all day affair and I helped her one year. She enjoyed it so much she invited me every year after that. IT is fun canning with someone. IT is also messy... and Smells awesome. Each can was a labor of love and my brother would eat an entire can himself! ( He never helped with the canning though... Figures)

One memorable summer my husband was working for a company that constructed grain bins. A farmer sent him home with several bushels of peaches. Little peaches with big pits. I was pregnant, of course - because it was summer and we didn't have air conditioning. Or a freezer. We also did not have a lot of money for groceries. I spent 10 hours blanching, peeling, pitting, slicing and canning those tiny peaches. I have never felt the same about putting up peaches. What a hot sticky mess.

We enjoy the fresh peaches. My wife gets sugar on hers and I get sugar free syrup. It all works. You are all set up for some wonderful meals with peaches.

Oh yum! Those peaches look so good! I can imagine the stickiness though. It's amazing how it gets on everything isn't it? You guys had a great system going on too. :-)

My favorite dessert is peaches and ice cream. Your supper sounded good too...of course, everything sounds good when you're on a liquid diet! LOL!

Those peaches look delicious. We used to live down in the Sandhills of NC where all the peach trees grow. Dan used to pick peaches when he was younger to earn money. We haven't been able to find good peaches this year.

We picked up peaches and shared (against hubby's wishes). They were out when I went back! Our half is gone, they were so good!

Ohhhhhh yummmmmm!! I use peaches in my oriental sweet chicken and veggies dish... and peach cobbler... and peach short cake.... oh and peach pancakes! I have a husband whose fave fruit is peaches lol. I need to check farmer's market this weekend for peaches I think. :D
