Peaches

We got a box of Colorado peaches.  I peeled and sliced them, added a bit of sugar and fruit fresh then Far Guy stirred them up and put about a peach and a half in food saver bags that we put in the freezer.  That way we can enjoy fresh peaches during the winter.

It took us less than an hour to complete that project!

Minnesota weather: High 79F or 27C Low was 59F or 15C eh!

Peaches

We got two flats of peaches from the local Lion's Club fundraiser.  Every year they truck in peaches from Colorado.   They have excellent flavor.

We went easy on ourselves this year...usually we slip the skins on the peaches...this year I pealed them and sliced them.  (better than Far Guy standing over a hot stove),  Far Guy put a small amount of sugar on them and some fruit fresh and then vacuum sealed them into servings for two. (about a peach and a half) They they were put in the deep freeze...next Fall and Winter we will enjoy them because they are as good as fresh!

What a sticky mess we made!

I have a story about my Dad and Peaches.   I used to dog sit for Al and Erna the next door neighbors.  They had a poodle named Peaches.  She got along well with our dogs, so it was not a problem.   My Dad would often come over in the afternoon for a cup of coffee/cookies and he would bring along a paperback novel hidden in his coat pocket, he would settle in with his coffee and his book in the recliner and read for awhile.  (My Mother did not like him wasting time reading at home.) When I was dog sitting Peaches...Dad would say "OH you have Bitches again."  I would reply her name is Peaches...Dad would answer  "Bitches" and then he would proceed to give her bits and pieces of cookies and say "come here Bitches"...and so my afternoon would go.   I told him he better be careful when visiting the neighbors because he could mess up the poor dogs name.  I can still hear him laughing at me!

Peachy Day

We stayed indoors most of the day, the air was bad from the wildfires.

We had a box of Colorado peaches to take care of.  The local Lion's Club sells peaches as a fundraiser.  The peaches were a little smaller than last year....but just as tasty.

We kept out a few to eat.

Far Guy blanched peaches so he could slip the skins off, I sliced them up, put a sprinkle of sugar and fruit fresh on them, put them in bags and vacuum sealed them for the freezer.   It was a sticky job and we are happy to have it done.

We have a machine from Walmart called FoodSaver that we use to vacuum seal fruit, cheese and meat.  Cheese lasts a really long time vacuum sealed in the fridge and our meat is never freezer burned.   Food is way to expensive to waste.

We have one package left from last summer...and they still taste as fresh as the day we did them.  I put bout 1 1/2 peaches in the bags, I like mine icy cold but Far Guy warms his up in the microwave.

Just Peachy

We spent most of the morning in the kitchen taking care of peaches.  We had an assembly line going.  Far Guy scored the bottom of the peaches and put the peaches in boiling water for about 30 seconds then he plunged them into an ice bath and the skin came off pretty good...better than peeling.  I sliced the peaches and put a bit of sugar and fruit fresh on them and vacuum sealed the bags.

We have about 30 bags.  And every surface of the kitchen was sticky!  After the massive clean up I took a very long nap.

Supper was "summer food"  sweet corn, tomatoes, a pork burger and peaches.
