May Baskets 2024

I finished the May Baskets last night most will get delivered today and a few tomorrow.

Most everyone guessed correctly!  Sheep!

They turned out pretty cute!
I got Far Guy out of the hospital in the afternoon and we got home just in time for the delivery of our new stove.  The delivery people do not connect anything.  The HVAC guy will be here today to see if he can make the connections for the vent work...if not I will call the store and have them come for an undelivery.

Far Guy is doing so so...he felt great in the hospital...coming home he is up and about a bit more so he doesn't feel so great.  The goal is to keep a fluid level without shortness of breath and swelling feet. Sounds simple enough but it is a fine balancing act.  He lost six pounds overnight in the hospital.

One day at a time.  Hopefully we will get the stove situation taken care of and then perhaps we can be quiet and calm for a couple of weeks.

Kitchen Gadget and Update

We had way too many tomatoes.  Lots of yellow pear and two larger red tomatoes.  So I chopped them up and cooked them, used my antique food mill/strainer and strained off the juice free of seeds and skins.

This old food mill/strainer hangs in the back room and only comes out when I make vegetable soup...to strain the tomatoes.

It comes apart for easy cleaning...but that old wire mesh is another story...I have to whack it in the sink many times to get it clean.

The tomato juice went in the freezer to be taken out when I make vegetable soup this Fall.

I finally completed 30 plus days of antibiotics and I am beginning to feel like a real person.  I still tire easily and have some aches but for the most part I am greatly improved.  I am happy to put this miserable month of August behind me.

Just Peachy

We spent most of the morning in the kitchen taking care of peaches.  We had an assembly line going.  Far Guy scored the bottom of the peaches and put the peaches in boiling water for about 30 seconds then he plunged them into an ice bath and the skin came off pretty good...better than peeling.  I sliced the peaches and put a bit of sugar and fruit fresh on them and vacuum sealed the bags.

We have about 30 bags.  And every surface of the kitchen was sticky!  After the massive clean up I took a very long nap.

Supper was "summer food"  sweet corn, tomatoes, a pork burger and peaches.
