The Buckskin Jacket

Far Guys Dad had this buckskin jacket made for him.  He wore it..you can tell that a little boy must have played cowboys in it. There are no photographs of him in it.
The buckskin jacket
Perhaps his sister remembers something.
Perhaps he wore this with his Davy Crocket Handkerchief..we have that somewhere it is almost worn out.  ( Note to self..locate it someday.) Perhaps he put on his side arm..in his Gene Autry Holster.
We always wanted a photograph of one of the grand boys in it.  It was either too small or too big.  Perhaps a Great Grandchild will pose in it someday.
I can always hope that he wore it for kindergarten class pictures.  The theme seems to have been cowboys and cowgirls.  There were several sections of kindergarten that year..he was not in this section.  I am hopeful that someday someone will bring some more old class photos into the museum.

Linda, Mark and Jackie are in the middle row in the center with the huge smiles! Floyd is in the back row third from the right.
Nowadays that little kid in the front row third from the right would be carted off to jail.  Times have sure changed:(

You're right about things having changed a lot. Part of the problem is that there are three times as many people on the planet as when this picture was taken. And WAY more guns... you make me nostalgic for times gone by.

Had I known, I would have come and played cowboy with Far Guy - I had my own set of pistols and a vest, much like a few of the girls in the picture. I did have a leather holster - none of the tacky plastic stuff for me!

WOWZA! When I was growing up, only true buckaroos had fringey, buckskinny jackets! What treasure <--> both Far Guy's pa AND this smitch o' Davy Crockettness!

Love the jacket! I found a little Davy Crockett jacket here and my husband remembered playing in it. It had his brother's name on it so it was a hand-me-down for Jim. When our son was in preschool and it was cowboy day, I took a picture of him wearing the jacket. It's one of my favorite pictures of him. I'll have to post it on my blog one day.

Kids could be kids back then and buckskin was way cool and so was Davy Crockett.

I had a very inexpensive Annie Oakly outfit. Nothing as fancy as FarGuy's beautiful jacket with the fringe. But mine had fringe on it, too. I didn't like guns much, though, even then. I wanted to be able to ride a horse!! ;)

I had toy guns, too. Loved to play cowboys and Indians.
Probably can't do that now days without offending someone, either.
It's a great jacket. I would have loved to have one like it. :o)

Happy Sunday to you both!

Surprising what we wore at one time. I always like to look at the class photos. They are so dated. These kids really put on a show for this picture.

My dad had a jacket like that also. I loved it. I use to let my son take firearms to school to do class talks. That was in the early 1990's. In the early 2000's my sister son forgot a plastic toy water gun in his pocket and was afraid someone would find it came home just sick. How our world has changed. Ann

Can't tell you how long, but it was far more than a split second, that I stared at the boy next to Betty to figure out why he would be carted off to jail! Then I howled, I finally saw it!

I remember when they tried to revive those leather coats in the sixties and my cousin Patty had one with all the fringes of leather up and down the sleeves and across the back.
