A few wildflowers

As most of you know I love Native Wildflowers.  Last year I wrote about a number of them and what bloomed when.  This year I am trying to fill in the blanks, either the flowers I missed or the ones that did not photograph well.

Downy Yellow Violet

This is the Downey Yellow Violet or Viola pubescens.  A tiny little cheerful yellow bloom.  The purple veins are runways  for insects, showing them the way to the pollen and nectar.

I also like to take photos of companion plants. I was disappointed that we did not get north of here or south of here to see the Trilliums in bloom. They bloom Memorial Day Weekend.  Then late one afternoon I found some in a spot about a 7 miles south of our house..I was pleased.

Trillium and Large Flowered Bellwort

The Trillium is on the left and the Large-Flowered Bellwort is on the right. Both are beautiful little plants that compliment each other..they are woodland friends.

Far Guys Trillium made it through another winter.  They only bloom for a few days. She is stunning.

Far Guy planted out some tomato seedlings that he grew in his greenhouse/workshop.  He also planted some onions and apparently he ran onto some watermelon seed so he planted that in his small garden too.

It has finally warmed up, today we are headed for highs in the eighties..we bypassed the seventies completely.  With our non spring it seems we have been thrust right into the steamy bosom of summer:(

It works. I can't believe it. Ok now where was I. Errr. The trilliums around southeast are underneath so you have to look for them I do have some like yours though cause a canoe trip down the upper St. Croix led me to them. And I like the bellworts too though like you said the flowers don't last long. :)

Our Trilliums here are much earlier, and seem to last for a week or two, gradually turning pink. I guess our season is more stretched out. They are lovely things, especially if you find a clump:)

Wonderful photos ! The Trillium is the official flower of our Ontario Canada. We have lots here in our wooded areas, it is protected by law here and is illegal to pick and/or transplant trilliums from public lands without a permit from the State. Just a bit for ya on our Trilliums ! Have a wonderful day !

Those photos are very pretty. I can almost smell the north woods. We skipped most of spring too. Today it's in the 90s with high humidity so the windows are shut and the air is on. Argh.

I have only seen trilliums in the woods of northern Michigan, where my husband grew up. I was always awed by them. They are so fragile. The yellow violoets, I have never seen. I do like Marsh Marigolds though. Do you have any of those?

Love the little, sweet violas. I miss the trilliums from Nalley Valley. Thanks for sharing these photos today. We were at 105 this afternoon. Too hot to even walk outside for more than a few minutes. Wishing you a good week, Connie.

So glad you are enjoying summer. We would welcome 'low' temps in the eighties. We are low and mid nineties. At least the humidity was a bit lower today. But the landscape here, too, is beautiful in bloom!

The past three days we have made it into the 70s, for the first time in 8 months!! So we are happy to have a little warmth, but nothing like yours.

Our trilliums are blooming profusely in the mountains right now, and they are magnificent!

Hi:
You have the lovliest headers and change them so often! Thank you for them. I enjoy each one immensely and they are a continuing source of surprise and pleasure. Love seeing Chance in each one, too.

Steamy is definitely the word for it. I think we are going to get down to a low of 77 tonight. I haven't seen a couple of those wildflowers before. The names are always interesting.

I like flowers and sometimes I like the word wild so putting them together makes for an adventure every time. Your photos of the wildflowers are exceptional. Wonderful colors.

You should do a wildflower book. I'm doing one for our area and so far I've only missed one......at least I have a photo in the archives
