Wistful Wednesday : An Old Snowplow

Last week I was able to sit down with my Father and go through some of the photos in the box that used to belong to his Father ( My Grandfather).   Very few of these photographs are marked.

This is an old snowplow..it just happens to belong to one of my Mothers Uncles.  Years ago when it snowed, snow removal was hard work.   Young strong men had to break the hard packed snow in front of the V of the snow plow.  Dad says that this photograph was probably taken sometime in 1938 to 1942.  He also said that he is sure his Uncles, Bill, Joe and Levi are in the photo as are his brothers Jalmer, Ervin and Oscar.   Now that I have them scanned and I can enlarge them on the computer, I will have him look again to make positive identifications.  I believe that I can identify only one person..and that would be my Uncle Ervin. That is only one out of the twelve people in this photo..so much is lost from one generation to the next. ..we have to keep moving on this project!

Look at how deep the snow is..that was lots of shoveling:)

Clearing the road for the snowplow? I wonder why they even bothered to have one! Great pictures, Connie.

Wonderful photos. Mom went through all of her photos years ago and labeled the backs for us.

WoW, did you ever take us back in time! Great pictures of a time passed. Yep, I was goin' through some of my pics and we always think we'll remember everyone in them and we so need to label them not only for us but our children and grandkiddos.

Have the best day complete with blessings from above!!!

The vehicle couldn't have been very heavy, so it looks like it could only clear one of two inches of snow. I guess they needed to get it off the road, as if anyone could use it. It is quite a family keepsake. I hope you are doing ok.

Love these photos - and look at all that snow! We have that much right now... but thank goodness for modern snow ploughs!

What a wonderful opportunity to get to sit down with your dad and go through old photos. Priceless! And thank you, as always, for sharing with us.

Wonderful picture and explaination of what was going on with those hard working young strong men. Looking forward to you feelin' perky again! Sorry 'bout those pesky bandages.

You are lucky, when I wanted my dad to go through old photos with me he said no, you know who they are as good as I do. He had alzheimers and knew he couldn't recognize all and it was just too much actually. What I'm trying to say (badly) is treasure these times.
I'd never thought of how they used to plow snow.

aren't we a bunch of softies... can't imagine having to clear snow for the snow plow.

I've been sorting and scanning my moms and grandmas photos so that I can share copies with my brothers and sisters. It is a hard job.
