First Snow

It had to happen.  I am surprised it didn’t happen sooner.  Lets see May 18 was our last snow and we made it all the way to October 28…that might be about 163 days without snow, must be some kind of record!

Snow October 28 First snow

This was earlier yesterday morning.  As I let Chance out a whole flock of Wild Turkeys were coming down the drive looking for a snack…and a certain Border Collie chased them off.

It snowed and snowed and clung to everything.  Then it rained, then it snowed again…

We finished with the leaves on Tuesday afternoon.  Far Guy cleaned up the lawn mower and will put new mulching blades on the mower for next spring IF it warms up.

What few leaves are out there will just have to stay out there.

One day I collected and cleaned up all the glass flowers.  They are put away in the woodshop/greenhouse for the winter.

By adjusting the 2x4 fancy smancy storage area most are stored face up…I may cover them with an old sheet.  The ones with huge vase bottoms are stored sideways.

I still have lots of glass to work with…no shortage of old glass.

Fall Work Yet To Do :

I need to pound the snow stick in the ground someplace…and move the patio table to my garage and change the flags and put the witch in the wreath by the door.  I also have a bunch of cardboard boxes that need to be cut up and recycled…oh and both vehicles need to be cleaned out…some days the list is never ending.

  1. Can't believe you have snow on the ground. Our trees still have quite a few leaves on them that the winds blow onto my lawn. Not done mulching just yet. You're fortunate to have such a nice "garden" storage area for your glass flowers. My list of "to do" just never seems to get done as I just stare at it and say "tomorrow".

  3. Snow will hit our High Country this coming weekend, but all we've got here is rain, rain, and more rain. Your snow looks pretty to me. But then again, it's YOUR snow. :-)

  4. I am sorry that your snow has already arrived. I don't know about you, but I can wait to see it. Hopefully it will melt and go away for a little while longer.

  5. This has been a very unusual weather year in my area, too. Not having a hard frost until late October is highly unusual, but it made for a gorgeous Fall.

My yard work is finished, too. I know some leaves will blow in from neighbor's trees, but the lion's share are off of the yard, which makes me very happy.

  7. Oh no not the Evil S Word! Here in downtown MPLS they say we got a few flakes yesterday but I didn't see them and they didn't stick to the ground. But it is coming...

  8. Oh yuk on the snow, but surely it is too early for it to stay permanently yet? Why do you put your glass flowers away for the winter, I thought they would look pretty out there in the snow, especially on a sunny day.

  9. Lovely dog running photo. Chance knows how to get his action photos just right doesn't he? I don't expect we will have snow for another 2 months but you never know.

  12. It looks like heavy wet snow...just the kind you don't need. You can't say I sent this to you as I haven't had snow yet. Sometimes the fall clean up just has to stop.

  13. Your glass art is beautiful.

Chance seems to be very happy with himself.

We got less than two inches of greatly needed and much appreciated rain.

    We are all blessed.

  14. Taking in, cleaning and storing all your lovely glass pieces must be quite some job. I have maybe a dozen tea cups that sit on top of pipes in the flowerbeds as well as some tea pots. One year I forgot to take in one of the tea pots and of course it froze and broke. I have taken them all in now and like you I store them covered with a sheet in the garden shed.

  16. We have had snow as early as Nov. 10th, but that is rare, and the snow never sticks around here. Your winters are very long!
Last week i washed up all of our glass flowers too, and they are stowed in the attic now. We just recently bought more thrift store glass, and plant to make more to give away or sell, or ...something. You have quite a latge selection by now. I like how you have stored them.

  17. Snow already? And you mean to tell me you usually have it earlier than this? That would be culture shock for me ;)

  20. I am not ready for snow. Your flower collection is an amazing group of sculptures. I wondered if you would bring them inside for winter. The snow photos look good in Minnesota.
