Really Dog Days of Summer

Really warm and humid yesterday, the kind of day that dogs dig holes so they can curl up in some cool dirt.  Another 83F/29C with 85% humidity.

It was a good day to spray some weeds in amongst the rocks.   After sprayer difficulties I finally got it done.   That was enough outside work for the day.  Inside I cleaned the bathroom and did some laundry...you know fun stuff.   Far Guy convinced me to go to lunch/supper with him...so we did ...it was a nice drive and good food at our favorite Mexican place.  Came home had a nap and then for a Ranger ride.

We stopped by the neighbors, the Lilac bushes are taking a hit this year.  A Winter with no snow and a wet Spring/Summer and the Lilacs have some kind of blight.   They will come back although they look pretty bad right now.  The experts say to clean up all the leaves that have fallen off and to cut down some of the inner stems to open up the plants for more air flow. (That is my report for Roger!)

I am getting ready to go Up North for a bit...Far Guy has an appointment up there one day and down here at home the next day...so he will travel back and forth and come get me when he misses me.  My hip simply cannot take the ride back and forth and back again. Besides that Sadie and Little Elvis will like my company. Jen has some big projects and hopefully I will be of some help.

Goals

We hope that Far Guy gets out of the hospital today and gets his infusion.  It is the goal for the day.  Then our goal is to keep him away from germy and perfume soaked people and out of the hospital.

One of his goals is to work on his car come Spring and get to a few car shows during the summer.

We both need time away from hospitals and time to rest and recoup from funerals and flu and feel somewhat normal again.

Friday happenings

The repairman was a bit different.   He began pulling the oven away from the wall before I could get some breakable stuff moved...I keep salt and pepper shakers and a spoon rest on the back of the stove.   Luckily only the spoon rest was broken...he apologized but still...it was a piece of Fiesta ware.  He was like a bull in a china closet. Hopefully the oven has been repaired and will work a couple more years.   I can check that repair off my list!

Far Guy and Gravy went to visit Dave in the afternoon.  They are all classmates and needed to have a good visit!

I went over to my baby brothers, he busted Mom out of the Nursing Home for the afternoon  Mom and Beth were working on a puzzle.  Mom seemed more forgetful than usual.

Laundry,  a clean bathroom and a nap rounded out the day...oh and cleaning up after the repairman.

Car Show

It was  a good day to go to a Car Show.   It was warm in the sunshine so the shade of a tree to sit in our chairs was welcome.  We got to visit with neighbors, old friends and relatives.

There were 300 cars there.  The dark Blue Mustang belongs to our friend Judy.

I was quite smitten with the Edsel.

It was a fun afternoon /evening out.

Sunliner and visits

I think you have to have a little strappy sundress, huge sunglasses and a scarf that flaps in the wind in order to drive this convertible.

Ford Sunliner most likely a 1956...back when a car was a car.

Friday I saw my Dermatologist for my whole body exam...all clear for another year!

I had a rough night after my third booster...finally got up and put ice on my arm.  Far Guy is headachy and feeling tired.  Seems like I am always tired and I joined him with the headache.

Our oldest daughter Trica brought her beau for a visit Friday afternoon.  Good to see her and to meet her beau.  Also met their dogs Chase and Lexi ( Golden Labs) who had a fun time racing around the yard.

Third Booster

Far Guy and I both had the super shot...the third booster yesterday.    One day at a time to see how I react.   We decided to get this one over with before we have the flu shot in a couple of weeks.

Cadillac not sure what year  40's or early 50's and I wonder if the hood ornament is original.

Car Show

Wednesday afternoon we took off to a local Car Show in Detroit Lakes.   The weather was windy and 72 F.  We visited with a cousin of Far Guy's and a gal we had not seen in 20 some years who used to be married to a cousin.  Good visits all around...nice to get caught up with relatives.

I had the most fun seeing this car.  The dash is bamboo. See the K on the glove box?  That should give you a hint.

It was a beauty...we had fun talking to the people who owned her.  1954 Kaiser Two Door Coupe!

This is most likely the last car show of the season...there is one more at the end of the month but it is further away.

Coach Doors

I will call these coach doors...but the doors have been called suicide doors for years.   If the door didn't close all the way you could fall out.

This is a 1947 Mercury.

If you wore a voluminous gown theses doors would come in handy.

Car Show

We attended the car show in Park Rapids.

As luck would have it...another Desoto from Argyle Minnesota was in the show and parked right behind us.  Desoto row!!   It is the same year 1959 same model Firesweep but it had some upgrades that we do not have power steering, two rear antennas, the name Firesweep on the glove box, two outside mirrors and probably more things that I know nothing about.   Far Guy says don't forget the side chrome, chrome rocker panels, the clock and curb feelers.

It was a very pretty car...the upholstery had been redone too.

Fun to see another car similar to ours.

It was a good day.  We came home and I napped for several hours.

Busy Days

Jen called and wanted to meet with me so I could get a key to the new gathering place.  She wanted to meet at Hobby Lobby an hour North. I quickly called my baby brothers bride as she likes Hobby Lobby also...poor gal only had about five minutes to get ready! I spent the morning in Hobby Lobby (yes yarn may have been purchased) and the afternoon sitting with my Dad...we watched TV ( Heartland on Netflix) and had a number of naps.  Mom was shopping in Fargo North Dakota with cousin Geraldine for a new sewing machine.

I got home about 7:30 luckily I had put steak in the crock pot for steak enchiladas...and I should have taken a photo as they were really good.

I think this might be a 1955 Chevy.

Far Guy joined the local car club...they have cruise nights every Tuesday...so we may give that a whirl next week.

Car Show

We attended one of the first car shows for the summer.    I got back from Up North, had a nap and we took off.

Far Guys shirt says " Nobody is perfect but if you drive a Desoto you're pretty damn close"    It was a nice night for an outing.  The temperature might have hit 70 F and it was breezy so the skeeters were not a problem.

Far Guy hung the old drive in theater speaker in the window...he has a Bose speaker inside that plays 50's tunes from his phone.

1951 Hudson

Boy if a person could only go back in time and buy a new car!

1951 Hudson

What a beauty of a car!  I always wonder what the story is behind the car; where it was found, who owned it, how much restoration did it have?   During the car shows it is interesting to talk to other people.

This last day of January we are looking forward to summer and the car shows.   We are in some sort of Winter weather warning...seems we have them every week.

Ornament Winners!

I will share their stories about their favorite Christmas gift!

My favorite Christmas present when I was young was a bicycle. I remember how much I loved that bicycle. It was pale yellow with dark green stripes. The hand grips had streamers which made it even fancier. My father attached a basket on the handlebars. I would peddle over to our neighborhood grocery store to pick up items for my mother or take dinner over to my grandpa’s. I took such good care of that bicycle that I would compare my feelings about it to someone getting a new car.
Thank you for helping me remember some really happy times growing up. Whether my name is drawn or not just thinking of that bicycle made my day. I was such a proud and happy kid because of it.
Thanks again,
Marlys

Congratulations Marlys!

My favorite gift as a kid was a pair of steel roller skates. They could expand and contract to fit different sized shoes, so I think they were a gift to all 4 of us. I can still remember the sound and feel of those steel wheels rolling on the sidewalks.

Congratulations Dawn!

My favorite Christmas gift was a doll that I received when I was when about 5 years old. She had curly hair and was just about the same height that I was!

Congratulations Jan!

I enjoyed reading all your stories about your favorite Christmas gifts!  I wish I could mail ornaments to everyone.

This week we have Dental appointments and the third covid shot for me later in the week.  It is a good time for me to get the third as yard work is pretty much done and I have no plans for next weekend.

Deer Report:  Hailey and Brooke got their deer also! So it was a good hunt for our Great Nieces!

I shoot my deer many times with my camera!

Going on the record now to say I hate the time change.
