Soup and Ice Cream

Far Guy offered to help me make vegetable beef soup.   I used the last of what was in the freezer before my surgery and didn’t have time to make up a batch. When we shopped for groceries this week he offered to help if I located all the ingredients. I bought enough ingredients for two large dutch ovens full….the offer of my own personal sous chef was impossible to resist.

He peeled and chopped…I helped peel a bit with the peeler. I think he was surprised at the time involved in prep work.  He said “I would rather help with Gumbo.”  He handled all the heavy pans and followed directions quite nicely.  Chance loves soup so when the house began to smell like soup he began to drool.

Far Guy thought that perhaps soup would perk me up.  After supper my other baby brother called and said “You need to be sweeter.”  So we all went to Dairy Queen.

That should take care of meals for a while.

I could use a good sous chef, that and dishwashing are the worst parts of the job.

Now FarGuy knows how much work is involved in making soup--LOL! You should have enough in the freezer for a while, too. Ice cream sound like a nice treat, too. Hope your hand is slowly feeling better. :)

What a great project. Then going to Dairy Queen can happen anytime you feel a lille less sweet.

It IS a great help having a sous chef! My DH does most of the peeling and chopping in the kitchen now that my hands are more affected by arthritis and I love him helping.
Our weather has taken a big change to cooler with showers so soup is a good idea. Ice cream for dessert is even better.

Home made soups take a lot of work but they are the best. I make a couple of carrot soups.

There's a DQ in Meaford where we're moving. I suspect it'll get some of our business!

Yeah.... sous chefs never realise how much work goes into whatever it is you cook on a regular basis. I call my partner The Chef but I cook the complicated stuff with lots of chopping, and especially the pasta sauces. When I was so ill earlier this year I discovered he had NO IDEA how to make a basic ragu. What we call Spag Bol.
