To be or not to Bee

The other day I noticed a Bumble Bee that had succumbed to a pollen overdose either that or it was in a catatonic state.

Pollen overdose

Perhaps it was just his/her time.  I did think “poor bee.”  I did not touch it just incase it was just sleeping.  I am allergic…so I kept my distance. In my old age I am becoming less afraid of them and don’t go ballistic when I see one.

We have very few bees around here, in my opinion the crop spraying in the vicinity has killed off a number of bees.  Away from here there are bees.  You cannot leave your windows down, they are insistant about getting inside a vehicle and are often seen right in front of a vehicles radiator…perhaps saying a one last good bye to relatives…or parts of relatives.

We don't see a lot of bees. When I had sedum plants in the garden, bees were plentiful, especially this time of the year.

Such a sweet but sad photo of the little guy. I don't think small wildlife stands a chance is agricultural areas. Bees are so important to crops but none of the big chemical companies care about protecting them. RIP Mr Bee.

I didn't see as many bees this year in our garden, but they were there. We have people nearby who have beehives. And honey, too. :-)

AS you said, it may have been its time. However the cooler nights will slow them down, too I think.
We also need to be cautious about where we buy plants each spring for our flower and vegetable gardens to make sure they have not been chemically treated too.

I mentioned to someone that we have a neighborhood beekeeper who has it sitting inside one of those cheap metal garden sheds. I guess neighbors are ok with that. I like to have bees. I have never been able to grow that kind of flower.

I love them but I leave my windows up all the time too. Last year I had a wasp in the car...a big one and thank goodness I wasn't driving fast down a highway! I was able to pull off and get him out of the car but I am more afraid of t hem than bees. Red wasps here are very aggressive and they do come after you! I got stung last year by one and it took 3 months for the swelling to go away! Of course then there are those 'killer bees'.....AHHHHHH!!!!! Run for your life! LOL! That would be a horrible way to die. I just like the regular old insects and bees especially.

We've lost hives to chemicals. I love my blanket flowers. Bloom their hearts out and bees of all sorts use them all fall :-).

We don't spray for bugs...for just that reason...I love the bees!

I've never seen a dead bee on a flower. So sad. I hope it wasn't chemicals being sprayed nearby and was just old age.

I've come upon a number of lethargic bees/wasps lately. I just thought they were getting ready for a long winter sleep.

We usually have plenty of bees around here, mainly because the farmers actually import them for the orchards. I just look for those white boxes when I'm out walking, and sure enough, looking more closely, can spot all sorts of flying creatures crossing over from the orchard to my neck o' the woods. Not so much this month, because not much is still in bloom, but now that my basil has bolted, I notice quite a few wee visitors adoring the basil blooms, puny as they are.

The bee season is pretty well over. However we didn't have many bees in the summer.

That flower is lovely!

I am always happy to see bees, but not wasps. Yellow jackets are so aggressive, and their stings hurt and make me swell up and then itch for a week. I think the wasp season is over for this year.

Poor bee. I did not see even one bee this summer, other than the big black ones. No honeybees. I've just caught up with your last three or four posts. Just had to go back and read the one Chance wrote. He always makes me laugh. How bout giving him a hug for me.
