Fireworks

Minnesotans cannot purchase or use exploding fireworks: no firecrackers, bottle rockets, missiles, roman candles, or mortars and shells. Acceptable, as they have been, are sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, and novelty items like snakes and party poppers.

Then why am I hearing various booms…that are not party poppers.  People down on the lake are busy.  We have another couple of nights to endure before they run out of exploding supplies.  I hope they don’t start any fires or blow any body parts off.

We make sure that Chance is walked before dark…so he can go hide by the bathroom door or under my feet.

I bet the wildlife on the lake think the world is coming to an end.

Whole gaggle of Canada Geese

We used to have a neighbor that had a cannon, the 4th of July was his day.  Various really big booms happened throughout the day.  He and his wife moved into an apartment in town…I wonder what he did with his cannon?  After all the little noise one could have some fun with a really big noise IF she had a cannon.  (She would probably end up in jail.)

As I write this it sounds like WW3 down on the lake. Maybe it will rain.

I can hope…we don’t have any skeeters to chase the people indoors.

I must be a party pooper.

We have the same thing here. We are so frustrated. Poor Theo has been terrified for days now. At our Nalley Valley home, one of our neighbors beloved goldens ran to her death due to July 4th fireworks a few years back. So sad.

We used to have fireworks on 5th November. Now they last for about 2 weeks. And we have Divali at about the same time so that extends the firework season. It's exhausting and horrible for my friends with pets.

Same thing here. They are not legal but I am already hearing the explosions and am just glad I don't have any pets to worry about. I worry enough about my virtual pet friends, like Chance. :-)

We have the same thing here where I live except that all we hear around this time of year is fireworks. And that includes bottle rockets. Guess people don't believe in laws. Last year someone started a neighbors garage roof on fire with their dumb fireworks.

It is not illegal in our county and it sounds like war for 2-3 weeks. Between the fireworks and all the thunderstorms - - it is one of the times I am thankful our dog is in doggie heaven. Otherwise, she would have had a heart attack this week due to the noise. She got to where nothing would calm her down - - but we had not tried drugs and did not want to go that route. However we do miss her many days - - but are not ready for the responsibility of another. We do well to keep up with ourselves and grandchildren.

It's illegal to have fireworks in my town, but I hear it repeatedly for about a week.

Most fireworks were banned here in Georgia until a few years ago. But they were legal in South Carolina and everyone just drove over there to get them. I guess Georgia got tired of losing firework money to South Carolina because now they're legal here too,. We're so wet I don't expect any trouble with fires. We'll just watch.

It is pretty well the same here. None going off leading up to Canada Day July 1, but lots going off around us at special events, although miles away, on Saturday evening. Just enough to make Jake worried. The worst for us is the leadup to Halloween. They start a week or two before, even though illegal.

Bob the Border Collie hates them and tries to burrow through the wall beneath our bed. I wish we could get her some noise cancelling headphones, but she would just chew them up in her frenzy. You can always hope for a rainy 4th evening to cancel them! That doesn't really work tho because they just shoot them off another night until they are all gone.

Annoying when you aren't at the party... and even then, still annoying! I have a Gypsy ankle bracelet. My friend has been spending evenings in the basement with a movie turned on. Another friend has been sitting on the floor hugging her pup for hours on end. Some people really do not like this sort of celebration!!!!!

We used to have a complete ban on fireworks sales. No problem. Everybody went 100m across the border into Montana and loaded up. I dislike in town now when some yahoo lets them go at midnight.

Whoops. Forgot to wish you a great 4th of July

Wishing you a quiet 4th of July.

I don't mind fire crackers as long as they are restricted to the actual day of the 4th. Most of our cities have banned them, but that doesn't stop people. They buy them on the Indian Reservations and then carry on wherever. The bans are not really enforced. Many of us go to shows put on by professionals.

We too have lots of firecrackers and even louder rockets going off beginning well ahead of July first. And for days after. This in spite of a complete ban on all such. Obviously cops have more important things to deal with.

I always feel so sorry for the poor animals on 4 July and New Year's Eve. Stay safe!

In our county, there has really been a crack-down on all those illegal fireworks this year. Even in the cities. When the enforcement gets serious, seems things get a bit quieter...so far...

Oh they are more than legal down here....anything and everything! It's been 'booming' here for a week now but they usually stop before I go to bed. We have had a lot of rain which is good but like you, I worry about the animals....they must be terrified. Although yesterday we had 2 baby deer frolicking in my neighbor's yard...too cute! They were playing and jumping around like baby lambs so they must recover by morning or maybe the elder deer explain this yearly phenomena to them. LOL! We have a lot of tourists down here on Holidays too but they seem to be pretty respectful visiting us elderly who go to bed fairly early as it quiets down before 10:00 p.m.

I would have loved to have a cannon to answer to all the hundreds of people who were shooting off their fireworks. On suburb decided not to do their fireworks show as there was too much going on out there. They postponed for another event in October???
