Back in the late 1990’s we would take off every summer and go camping out west…Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon. I love sleeping in a tent…Far Guy not so much. One time in Wyoming we had frost on the inside of the tent…cozy.
The beautiful green/blue water of mountain streams in northern Idaho and Montana are something to see. Very different from Minnesota rivers, the glacial melt suspends particles that reflect light differently into the green/blue spectrum.
This day we parked the car and hiked over a bridge to get to the river.
This was the summer of 1996 or 1997.
Far Guy had more hair back then.
I was thinner back then.
I think this was near Libby Montana but I could be wrong. I marked the back of the photo Idaho or Montana.
When one goes on a trip they should keep a list of where they took photos. In this digital age I often take a photo of water towers or the town sign so at a later date I will have a clue.
Good Morning, I would love to visit this part of the country. The water is gorgeous. I hope you guys will have a good day. Hi to Chance!
Love the photos (we also went tent camping when I was kid). I have this great photograph that I took of my Dad and brothers on the path to one of the waterfalls in Yosemite mid 1950s and then in the late 1990s I got a shot of my Dad and two nieces in the same spot and the trees were the same etc. It was unplanned and a great visual to compare the two photos.
Photographing water towers is a good idea. Sometimes we take pictures of the town names on the highway signs. Sometimes we stop at park entrances or exits to take pictures of their welcome signs.
Lovely photos ! Hey back then we were all thinner lol ! We loved to go camping but don't need to now as we live in a valley and every day it feels like we are camping especially when we have the fire pit in the yard going and sit around it lol we have trees and wild life all around us like you do there ! I like looking back on the old days of camping we also camped at star parties where all kinds of Astronomers got together in big fielded camp grounds and all viewed the night sky's with our telescopes camped and had great fun ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
Back then I was thinner also. Love the blue/green color of the water. I have never been much of a camper. My idea of camping is parking the car in the motel parking lot. I prefer soft beds and indoor plumbing. Guess I'm just a city girl. It is getting harder to remember where a picture was taken - back then I figured my memory wouldn't fail as it certainly has. Thanks for sharing your memories with us.
Loved all those places especially SW Montana and Yellowstone. Yes we tented too in the mountains though later when the boys were grown it was a popup camper where the beds were kinda like in a tent anyway. Of course all those rivers would find me standing in the middle with a long thin stick trying to toss a feather. Those were the days living on mostly in memory now. Nowadays I can't sometimes remember my phone number but on many of those streams I could still find the exact rock by which a certain large fish lay waiting for my cast....:)
Look at you all slim and long blond hair! I love the pictures! What a beautiful place to camp. Just wondering if you ever had a bear come close. We used to camp and sleep in a tent too,(back in our slimmer days) but only in NC. No bears around.
Are you sure those weren't taken in B.C.?;-) We did lots of tent camping in my childhood, and also through the early years of my two kids. We had a camper for a while after that, and then revisited the tent camping again not too many years ago. Still enjoyed it. We were/are bad at labelling photos:(
Beautiful spot... wherever it is! It does remind me of what I can remember of Kootenai.
Very nice pix! I hate camping -- don't even get me started! I only camp at Camp Hilton! (Weren't we ALL hairier and thinner back then???)
I grew up traveling and camping in a tent (remember the smell of the old canvas tents? I loved it!) and repeated it with my kids as they grew up. Last year my daughter and hubby took their 4 -- yes, 4 under 5 years -- boys on their first camping trip together and that made me really happy that they are continuing the fun.
Fun to see a picture of you, Connie!
Tent camping is fun, but I doubt I would do it anymore with so many Grizzlies roaming the wilderness and campgrounds.
The great thing about digital photos is the date is embedded into the photo's metadata. That, and I store my photos by date, so I always know when they were taken.
What a beautiful spot! I didn't sleep in tents much, but I have one now. Nice looking couple!
We used to go tent camping when our kids were young, and so were we! Our kids still camp.
I try to take photos of signs to indicate the location of photos.
The color of the water reminds me of the salt streams in Switzerland.
It's always good to look back at the things we did and also see what we looked like.
Great to see these shots of the two of you!
I've seen that coloring on water melting off glaciers from friends' photos during trips to Alaska. Never realized the same could be seen, all for a simple trip to nearby Idaho. How beautiful!
The water really is a different color. Beautiful!
I have been terrible about labeling pictures...even digital ones. They get suck in a yearly folder at least, but that's it. For all my organizing habits, it never carried over into photos for some reason.
You look beautiful, BTW. :)
I love to tent camp too :-). I took a big solo (well, not completely solo - I had my dog with me :-) trip out west one spring. Best trip ever!
