West Baden Springs : The Veranda

Oh my goodness that veranda was inviting!  It was a tad chilly so not many people were outside.  Far Guy’s sister is on the veranda.

The Veranda one

I can only imagine the people that strolled here after dinner.

The Veranda Two

I had a blast on the front steps taking photographs.

Veranda from the front steps

The Veranda Three

Welcoming rocking chairs just invited you to sit for a spell.

The railing on part of the veranda

I noticed the swastika on the railing…there was a sign that said “ The West Baden Springs Hotel Veranda Railing was constructed in 1915, long before the Swastika  Symbol was used in WWII.   Many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years utilized the Swastika Symbol to represent Life, Sun, Power, Strength and Good Luck.”

The Veranda Five

Perhaps you would like to go inside?   Tomorrow the Lobby and Atrium.

What a lovely veranda. Your photos make it look so inviting. I could relax and knit mittens there!

I saw swastika symbols inlaid in ancient places in Macedonia, too. These days they would need to explain why they are there, though. Love you pictures! My adventure starts in a few hours. :-)

Oh, how I would love that veranda! Just sitting on those rockers and watching the gorgeous scenery would be so nice... Interesting about the swastika.

What a lovely place! Interesting about the swastika symbol. I'm sure there's lots of symbols that were just fine until they were used to represent something bad.

That place is just beautiful. I would love to sit in one of those rocking chairs on a warm day, for an hour or so. Gosh. I knew I was behind but have missed five of your posts! Enjoyed catching up though! I love your header!

Lovely! I would never get any work done because I'd be sitting in one of those rocking chairs watching the world go by.

I learned about the swastika symbol when I found them embedded in an antique dresser scarf I purchased. I washed it and was ironing it when I saw them and I almost threw it out but I mentioned it to someone and they informed me that it wasn't always a symbol for evil. It was white on white so I didn't notice it when I bought it.
What a beautiful, grand place. So glad you went to see it and are sharing it with us now.

Yes, I have spent several luxurious nights at the West Baden Hotel and my favorite place to relax, besides the dome, is the front porch. Much to my chagrin and disappointment, they have covered everyone of those swastikas with green tin. Sad. Obviously someone uneducated about what the original meaning of the symbol complained.
