I bought myself a pair of warm knitted mittens last summer. I could not resist them. I found them in a small craft shop off the beaten path.
They are beautiful. I put them away for the summer...who needs mittens in the summer anyways...who buys mittens in the summer. Well...apparently I do, these are lined with angora yarn. Just slipping your hands inside is almost orgasmic.
I looked at them this week...as it happens they had joined two other pairs of mittens that I have been saving "for good." How many pair of "for good" mittens did I need?
I am going to wear them this winter, I thought about putting idiot strings on them so they are not lost.
Why is it that letting go is so difficult. I might lose one...I might get them dirty...I might...I might...I might enjoy wearing them...
Do you have anything that you are saving "for good" ?

Ha! Yes, as I am purging everything I own it is use it or lose it (donate it) so I am using things I had been saving, too. When you get to a certain age you wonder what you are saving this or that for anymore, ya know? LOL! Enjoy!!!
Not really.
I inherited my late mom's special plates and we use them more often than Thanksgiving and such. I'm not even going out to anywhere special!
I don't have mittens or gloves, but I do have a winter jacket that I've only worn a few times. It is just too "nice" and I don't want to get it dirty. So I wear my ratty old parka instead. 😄
Funny Story. My father had a beautiful hand made sweater that my mom never let him wear because it needed to be saved for Good.
Dad said if he ever met Mr. Good he would punch him out because all his clothes were saved for him.
In the end, my dad wore his Good Sweaters after he and mom parted ways. He enjoyed wearing them out. He never let Mr. Good have them!
Me? I learned that lesson. I use somethings a bit less to keep them a bit newer, but now I realize that saving it for good isn't always the best answer.
Lucky for me I have a box of mittens that my Aunt and Grandmother made that were shipped to me after they had passed.
No one else in the family wanted those hand made mittens. I sure did!

Nope. Not one thing. I enjoy all my belongings. My mom saved tons of things "for good" and consequently never enjoyed them. A result of growing up during the Spanish Civil War.

Those are beautiful mittens. My grandma was an expert at saving things "for good". When she passed we found robes, nighties, dresses, etc. that she had never worn because they were "for good". I used to do that but about ten years ago I decided that now was "for good" time. I use everything we have when it's appropriate. Life is too short to waste on waiting for the right moment.

My mom put away most gifts "for good", and never used them. Too pretty to use! That was something I heard so often. She was quite upset that I put the pretty pillowcases made by my grandmothers on the guest room bed. One grandma embroidered them, and the other tatted lace on them. They were/are so pretty and I think about those grandmas every time I use them. Right now they are in the linen closet, but they've been loved and used. Mom didn't approve. LOL
YES! So many things in the past years were "for good" and then never used or worn. I'm close to the end of my life - if not now, when to use all those "saving for good" things?
Oh yes, I’ve been in “for good” camp, but I broke out about six years ago. Now, I use and enjoy the beautiful things I purchased. Your new mittens are beautifully knit! I love the braid stitch around the cuff.
My for good item is a set of those white dish towels for drying dishes. My mother-in-law hand embroidered beautiful designs on each one. Fish, lake, trees, etc. They're gorgeous. She calls me silly for holding back using them. She makes them for all the new brides in our family.
I was saving a pair of leather gloves for "good" then we had an emergency or sorts. I had them on. They are nice and dirty now so I can wear them for every day and not worry. :)
I used to have a teaset I 'saved' for good occasions - until an elderly friend told me she had done the same but whenever there was a special occasion, there were too many people and she still hadn't used her teaset. I went home and began using mine! Not everyday, but I make sure to use it at odd times and it just adds a touch of luxury to everyday mundane life. Enjoy your pretty mittens :)
This is Mark. He saves things for later. Later never comes! I have china and crystal that doesn't get used anymore. I have been thinking about it and how it's ridiculous to have it sit in the cabinet. I think I'll start using it, for good, as in always.

I'm not one to save things "for good" because I just don't have the storage area for such things. I love those mittens and hope you use them this winter! :-)
Whoever made them was a very talented knitter. They are gorgeous! Wear them....now!
I regret that I didn't get to wear all those short sleeve shirts this summer. We don't go anywhere enough to get through them all and now I am moving them up to the top bar and bringing down the long sleeves. I like lots of patterns and stripes and I see them each morning but won't be wearing them.
I have lots of things that are "every day" and then others for wearing in public, sort of "for good".
I have a whole closet of stuff and it's not be saved for good.
I have been tempted many times to put strings on my mittens and gloves. And I probably should because I ALWAYS lose them!
I still keep the mittens my sister knit for me fifteen years ago "for good". Meanwhile, she knit me another pair for this winter! I guess the old ones will be the every day, hauling in firewood mittens now.
