I spent the morning yesterday with two old guys...my Dad and my baby brother.
Dad started doing better after we got him some water, walked him around and talked to him, the more he talked the better he got. He didn't appreciate me handing him his water cup...but he drank from it every time I offered it. Good hydration is the key sometimes....and a pushy daughter.

We left Dad to watch his TV after we spoke with the Doctor and the Occupational Therapist. Physical Therapy was supposed to come by later in the day. Dad needs to keep getting stronger before getting out of there...he has to do the work.
Back at home our new bed was delivered!! Yeah for us, the same bed as we have up North at Andy and Jens. Here we have a Queen size...up North we have two twins that will make a King if we had room.
I did a fair amount of laundry in the afternoon and made supper; Ham and Scalloped Potatoes. My first time cooking in a while.
My stitches are driving me partially nuts...I will be so happy to get the stitches out of my hand on Friday. Hate to wish my life away but Friday cannot come soon enough.

That is good news that your dad is improving. Sounds like you are getting settled at home. Hope all goes well when you get the stitches out - i know what you mean about "wishing your life away" as I am a very impatient person.
We need a new mattress. What kind did you get?
I haven't checked in on Blogger for at least a week. Sounds like things have been hectic for you. I have had computer and cable issues. Sounds like your dad is doing better. I will check the posts I have missed after I finish this note.

Does your Mom get to see your Dad or is it too far for her to travel? You are definitely good for him! I hope he recovers quickly so he can go back home. Congrats on the new bed! When you mentioned stitches I thought you were talking crochet! LOL!
I'm sure that will be a relief to get them out.
I think visits, (and of course water), are the key to your Dad going home. When I worked in two different nursing homes when I was younger, the more visitors a person had, the more likely they were to do the work to be able to leave. Otherwise, they just sat in front of the TV. The place your Dad is at looks really clean, shiny floors are a great indicator.
Congrats on the new beds. How wonderful to have a comfy place to rest at the end of the day.

Two old guys, yes, I guess my sister could be called an old gal and she is younger than me! Good you visited your dad, got him to drink plenty of water and gave him encouragement. Hope your stitches are out soon.
It's sad when something as basic as hydration is not done in a care home.
Itchy stitches - must mean good healing happening! The PT and OT should help him get stronger, but I'm sure having pushy family members encouraging him will help too. My younger daughter is an OT, and she says that family willing to keep the encouragement going is a help.

Yes Mom still drives so she sees him everyday it is about a 45 minute drive for her.
Glad to hear your Dad is making progress. It's good he has his family to advocate for him.

Keep the old guy chatting and watch him come to life. I think a good conversation is worth a pound of drugs and therapy. It is free! With no side effects. What better gift to give than your time. Everyone has a limited amount, after all. IT is the most precious thing we have. Keep him hydrated....hehe.
Happy to hear your Dad is alert and making progress. I’m certain the family visits and encouragement have made a huge difference. It must be a difficult time for your Mom.

Oh dear, itchy stitches - I do feel for you, they can drive you absolutely nuts. Friday will roll round soon enough, so hang in there :)
If I didn't already know you are in MN I would when I read Up North! I am also a Minnesotan. I've come to this in the last couple of days, so I don't know the details, but sometimes a bossy daughter is everything.
Sure hope your dad is up to doing the work so he can get back home again! Glad you and your brother went to visit and pushed water at him! Your new bed sounds great. Ham and scalloped potatoes sounds delish! Hope your hand will be much better soon!
This sounds like a very good day! Good to see dad, good to hear he is improving, good mom can visit. Great to have the new mattress, and good to know that the end is in sight for those stinking stitches!
Stitches are itchy. Hang in there, soon it will be a thing of the past.
That hallway looks exactly like the ones in my moms rehab facility. She hated being there, but I thought it was a good rehab place. I would go there if I needed it. To me, it's more about good staff than fancy facilities. Your dad is fortunate to have so many caring family members watching out for his behalf.
Has to be frustrating for your Dad, needing the help and wishing he didn't.
