We had an interesting visitor! I have not see a Red headed Woodpecker in a long time...our area is in his breeding range but he does not live here year round like they do in Southern Minnesota.
He was probably just passing through....or lost.
He enjoyed the bird bath.
I sure enjoyed watching him...he was only here one day as far as I know.
Far Side
Lucky you. I have never seen one. Last year we had a Red-Bellied Woodpecker at my feeder. So far this year I haven't seen him . Only the Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers.
ReplyDeleteI saw my first one just a couple weeks ago. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuch an attractive bird. God bless your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThere is one that pops by here every so often. I see a few of them along. Seems like every time we are out for a rambling drive, I see one or two.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird! I've never seen one anywhere, except here today on your blog. I hope you and FG have a laid-back and restful Memorial Day weekend. :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe he will stick around? We hadn't seen these in ages too...but since we are further south we get to see them quite often now.
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bird!
ReplyDeleteAren't they striking! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Gosh, he is pretty!
ReplyDeleteSure is a pretty bird! We get occasional Downy woodpeckers at our feeders.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't use to see woodpeckers much at all but recently we have seen many more. We even have one with a nest in one of our trees. Your pictures are great!
ReplyDeleteThese are very attractive birds. They are not resident here but have been seen here occasionally.
ReplyDeleteAren’t they beautiful? We seldom saw them in southern Minnesota anymore, nothing like we used to.
ReplyDeletePeople who live along the two rivers do see them but I haven’t seen one like this for years. I remember seeing them as a kid in southern Iowa timbers. You did well to get the two shots.
ReplyDeleteIsn't he pretty!! I'm really enjoying having a feeder in my yard, watching the variety of birds some through the yard. The cats are loving it too. ;)
ReplyDeleteSteve and I were lucky enough to see one at Brukner Nature Center a couple weeks ago. Usually when we see them, they are passing through. They are a striking bird.
ReplyDeleteOh he is lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bird! Funny, I just wrote a post on woodpeckers too. :)
ReplyDeleteAren't they gorgeous. They are plentiful in Arkansas -- I've seen many at a park that straddles the state line, which is about 40 miles from here, but I have only seen one at our place once, briefly, and then it was gone.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one here in Todd Co. We had them when I was a kid in Anoka County. They liked the red oaks. Phil
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful bird! We used to get those when we lived farther south in Wisconsin. I saw my first Pileated woodpecker up here in the Northwoods last summer. Wow...are they big birds! I Love seeing all the birds that visit you. Thanks for an always great blog!
ReplyDeleteThat sighting is a real treat.
ReplyDeleteWell, you caught him fair and square with your camera! What striking coloring!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird...I've never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one of these, and we're not THAT far away from MN! Very lovely bird!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have seen a red headed woodpecker either... they sure are handsome!
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing them all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't seen one in decades.
