Finally

The lower level window across from my desk was a challenge.  I said we should clean it in place…Far Guy said “oh no we can open it.”  Huh?  It is a bugger to lock once opened it has to go back together perfectly…the stars must align and the moon has to be just so and if you do it on the second Sunday in a week you might get it to latch.  In the summer I don’t worry about it…but it is winter.

Clean window

Yes that white stuff is snow.

Usually I sit outside cross legged in those rocks to wash the outside of this window…I always wonder how fast will I be able to move if a snake comes along…well I didn’t need to worry about that yesterday but I also didn’t want to sit down in that snow.

We finally accomplished the washing and waxing of the window…Far Guy helped and then I sent him inside to be the pointer…what you don’t need someone to point where the window is smeared?  I do.  ( Yes I wax our windows…I used to use a product in a pink can called glass wax…now I use something called Glass and Silver Polish….it helps the rain/snow slide right off a window without leaving water spots.  I waxed windows all the time at the resort…many many windows.)

Now we have to get the window to latch…let the adventure begin.

Well he struggled, I struggled…at one point he was outside pushing on the edge of the window freezing his butt off, while I was trying to latch it from inside.  He came in to warm up. Then I did it…I opened it once again…someone said “You didn’t open that window again did you?” accompanied by a sigh that could have been heard in the next county…. ummmm yes… then I closed it firmly and low and behold it latched. I DID IT!!   Far Guy was amazed…howdidyadothat?  Just lucky I guess.

That window has pretty stuff on the ledge too…it is all waiting in the kitchen…after the big struggle I was too tired to put everything back…of course everything had to be moved under this window …and what better time to scrub the floor and give the grout a really good clean.

Thanksgiving Flag

I finally had a chance to put up my Thanksgiving flag.

Lucky you getting the window to latch - I'm proud of you.

Glad you got the window latched. Now it doesn't need to be opened until the weather is better, right? Love your pretty flag. It signals the season to me, every year. :-)

I enjoyed reading about your stubborn window. That's pretty much how it goes with all our screen/storm doors (when lifting the windows from their bottom storage). Because we have two double doors and two single doors I get to go through this six times - every spring and winter. I wish I could say that it was only loud sighing that emitted from my lips. I'll try that next time - it might improve the blood pressure situation. ;^) Going to look into window polish now. Sounds like a nifty treatment for making those clean windows shine and last through the snow and rain seasons.

Our grandson, Eric, cleaned most of our windows for us on Saturday. It is nice to have him around. I'm going to miss him when he and Katie move on for their next adventure.

I would just like to point out that if you hadn't cleaned the window, you could have left the latch and you would not have had to clean the floor or the grout. Just saying....but it comes from a tired gram. Happy Thanksgiving!

I have two windows that are difficult to latch. The most difficult one is over the kitchen sink.

I loved this post.
Guys just don't get that you have to clean other things while you are doing a job that entails moving things...or it never gets cleans. Sounds just like one of our jobs. We took the window air conditioner out a couple days ago and it pretty well took all day because of all the cleaning and arranging and re arranging that goes along with it. This post made me smile the whole way through reading it.

Stubborn window - nice to have done. I need more info on the Window Wax - where did you find it?

Window wax?! Now I have never heard of that. OMG! I need some on my patio door glass. Maybe in the spring. I am so glad to hear about window wax. Glad you got the window closed again. It looks marvelous! :)

I have one window just like yours but it's telling me that I should get a new window.

I loved Glass Wax! Why do they do away with some good products (example: Whirl made the best pie crust so easy. Now their oil does not.)
Maybe they don't sell well.

Glad that went as well as it did.
Now I'm going to look for that product that makes rain slide off the window. My kitchen window always looks dirty so this could be the answer.

Ha ha, that made me laugh. Glad you got it latched though. It rang a bell with me. This morning, I was heading for an appointment, even leaving a bit early! Larry is trying to replace a windshield wiper on the car. Gets it on but can't get the little latch thing that locks it in place, to snap down. Bit of a conundrum because it was a rainy morning and I needed the wiper to work. Anyway, I took over, failed the first few attempts, but all of a sudden the wiper slid back slightly and the piece snapped down and I was good to go, still with time to spare. I was imagining driving along with no wipers going because there wasn't one on the passenger side and to turn them on would mean the arm was scratching across the windshield.

A leverage bar (crow bar) might help shift the window to be straighter but then once you try it and the window glass breaks you can say Iowans are stupid. We were at the new facility of our older friend's retirement apartment. She showed us a newer apartment that she thinks we need to move into and all the time we were there the wind was whistling through it. I never could get that double hung window closed.

Hmmm glass wax - never heard of it but wonder if it would help the outside of my windows which have all this haze on them. Might need to find something to get that off and try it.

You are amazing! I also learned something....I was going to buy that expensive stuff they use on car windshields to get the water to repel off and not spot but I had no idea there was something called glass wax! I've never heard of it and here you have been doing it for years! You are a woman way ahead of her time! I bet the glass and silver polish is lots cheaper than the car windshield stuff. I'm going to try it and comparison price too! Thank you and so glad you got the window to latch....you go girl!
